Coolant issue

I walked by my daughters car and smelled coolant so i popped the hood and notice that the coolant splashed on to the engine.
The only noticeable place i notice it's coming from is the coolant reservoir or reservoir cap. Anyone have an idea on what the issue is, do i just need a new reservoir and cap?

Check the radiator reserve tank cap. Its plastic and sometimes they crack.

OEM, Go to a Honda or Acura dealer, I think they are less than $3

The cap is about $16, certainly not $3.

Yes we were talking about the reserve tank cap, not the radiator cap.

THe exact same thing is happening to me now. I found the reservoir tank cap was cracked. Replaced it but it is still spilling a little bit of coolant. It could be because of the small black sealant around the cap that's missing now. Did you figure out the problem?

Had the same issue. Turned out my radiator cap had broken. Yes, the spring popped off and everything.

That's why I said $16 for the radiator cap. The overflow tank has no pressure and does not cause a blowout like that. It's the radiator cap that failed which didn't let coolant into the overflow tank, but out the radiator's neck itself instead.
