Cold Start up Engine Squeaky Noise (vid inside)
It was about 10°F outside yesterday. When I went to start up the car it was making loud squeaky noise from the engine area until it warms up. Is this normal or should get Acura dealer to check it?
Here is the video:

I don't know what that LOUD ASS BACKGROUND NOISE is but I can hear the whining noise and I can vouch that I have the SAME EXACT noise upon cold start up, here it's been ranging from 0-5 degrees F.
It's still there when it warms up and when I drive, only when I turn off the engine TWO times does it go away, any one else know what that whining noise is?
It's not that loud hissing noise that you hear most of in the video clip, you can hear a whining noise.

Holy crap, that is incredibly f'n loud and annoying. And your hood wan't even open.
Not the kind of "squeak" I expected. Does not sound to me like a drive belt/pulley.
Have you done the PS Hose recall lately? Wonder if this is the "air in the PS pump" sound????

I have the same exact problem with my '05 TL and I have already done the power steering recall. It started making that whining sound when it got cold as well. Also it goes away after the engine warms up. I've noticed that the PS fluid is low so I'm going to take my TL to the dealership to refill it. Oh and the fluid is a bit bubbly if that makes any sense. It seems that most of us TL owners have or had this problem in the cold weather but can't quite pinpoint the cause of it. I hear a lot of different opinions for it so it's pretty odd haha. Since it's a temperature related problem, for those who live in "warmer" states most likely isn't a big deal. I'm in Philly and it gets pretty cold here and same goes for SelimUniNoLimit's TL. If anyone has a definite solution to this problem please let me know. I will also leave a feedback on my TL.

go to http://owners.acura.com/ and sign-up for an account using your car's VIN#.
Then click on <Service & Maintenance> at the top. Then click on <Recall> from the bottom left side of the screen.
Then you should see the status of two recall that was done or not.

Oh, I pass by there every other week because of work stuff. But, I get my service done at Sussman Acura in Jenkintown, it's much closer. Plus, I'm pretty close with the service advisers there, they are really nice. I ended up refilling the PS fluid at home, and NOT surprisingly, it didn't solve the noise problem haha. I shall go ask them about the whining noise. I might need to get transmission fluid and break fluid changed. Most definitely, new wiper and an oil change. I just spent all my money on a new set of tires due to bubbles (this is what you get by driving on Cheltenham Ave... it's in such a terrible condition as you may know) So hopefully, I'll have enough money to go to the dealer by this weekend. How's the service quality at Admore?

LOL...i'm sorry, but i just got mine "fixed" - the loud whine from MY CAR (some what identical to yours) led to a blown transmission. i hope your noise doesn't lead to the same, but it's a place to start "looking" into!!!!!!

Btw asurada, I recommend getting PIAA wiper blade they are awesome. As for Acura Admore they are OK. Nothing special. They don't offer any loaner for people under 25 and sometime they try to rip you off. Maybe because of the fact that i got my car from GM dealer at Jenkintown. Oh well...

Are you planning to get your car inspected anytime soon? Did you know that if you take this one time class that Acura dealer offers once a month, you get your state inspection for around $40 something, instead of $80.
Just letting you know to save some money.

I ended up getting rainx wipers, I think they will do for a while haha. It's good hear that you've gotten your problem taken care of. As for me, my problem was a ripped o-ring on the ps pump. I took care of it yesterday, and "the noise IS gone" lol.

SYMPTOM
A moan or whine is heard when turning the steering wheel when the engine is cold. There may be air bubbles or foam in the power steering reservoir. The noise usually goes away when the engine warms up.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Air enters the power steering pump through the inlet joint O-ring.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the O-ring on the power steering pump inlet joint.
PARTS INFORMATION
O-ring: P/N 91345-RDA-A01
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Acura Power Steering Fluid: P/N 08206-9002 (One container repairs about 12 vehicles.)
WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
In warranty: The normal warranty applies.
Operation Number: 5121B5
Flat Rate Time: 0.3 hour
Failed Part: P/N 91345-PAA-A01
Defect Code: 07408
Symptom Code: 04201
Template ID: 07-060A
Skill Level: Repair Technician
Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the right side engine compartment cover (7 clips and 1 bolt).
2. Remove the bolt holding the inlet joint to the power steering pump housing.
3. Place a shop towel under the pump inlet.
4. Twist the inlet joint back and forth until it is loose, then carefully disconnect the joint and point the hose upward to minimize fluid loss.
5. Remove the inlet joint O-ring.
6. Apply power steering fluid to a new O-ring, and install it on the inlet joint.
7. Install the inlet joint, and torque its bolt to 11 N.m (8 lb-ft).
8. Top off the power steering fluid, if needed. Start the engine, and let it idle. Confirm that the noise is gone and that the system is operating properly.
9. Install the right side engine compartment cover.

Acurazine.com has a great thread on this. They even have a video of the TL displaying the symptom.

cold engine noise, 06 TL
I my 06 TL just started making the cold engine noise around the timing belt and power steering. My reservoir has bubbles in it as well. I live in So. Cal and it's around 45 degrees. I will get the O-ring checked out and hopefully the noise will go away.
Thanks for the tips!

cold engine noise, 06 TL
Replaced the O ring on the inlet valve leading into the power steering pump and the noise is gone. Make sure to follow the instructions above closely. I first put the O ring inside the opening of the pump and when pushing in the hose it broke the O ring.
Thanks for the 411!

I took my car into the dealership (Thomas Acura - Covina, CA) yesterday and notified them about the problem. I knew they had done the recall task on the car but it wasn't until recently that it started making that loud annoying noise.
So I decided to go back to the dealer and tell them about it. The parts/service manager (Conrad was his name) had told me that they are instructed to replace the hose as well as the O-Ring. So I told him that that may have been the case but maybe the O-Ring was damaged during the installation, or it was never replaced. So then he said that they were going to check it out. So I waited and finally I was told that they replaced the O-Ring and they said that I should be hearing that loud noise anymore.
So I would recommend for you guys to go back to the dealership and have them check it out because even though your car is out of warranty, this recall is suppose to be covered!

just to be clear.... i have this problem but based on the repair post #20 describes..... it happens to me when the car is simply idle. Moving the steering wheel doesn't it make it any better or worse. It goes away when the the car warms up.....
Is the o-ring still the likely culprit?
