'05 TL 6speed vibration at low RPM's
I picked up the car the beginning of the summer with 90K+ miles on it. I noticed it vibrated occasionally then figured maybe just needed a tune up. I replaced the plugs and ran several tanks of cleaner through the gas and it's still there and either easier for me to notice now or more noticeable. 1800-2800 RPM's in any/every gear it's noticeable. In 3rd probably more so for some reason and occasionally so much vibration that I'm certain the check engine light would come on but 3000-rev limit it's and smooth as can be. Does anybody have any thoughts? Anything like injector or coilpack I would think would throw a misfire code so that leads be to think mechanical such as something out of balance like a pulley, flywheel, clutch or maybe even motor mounts.
No not like a little vibration, like the steering wheel is and car is vibrating from the motor. And forgot to say it does it more under load, which for me is most of the time. Thats why I listed motor mounts, maybe it's enough to keep the engine when the rpm's get up and forces itself in place, again a long shot i know normally they just clunk.
hows that confusing?.......
Do this...
Find a nice flat surface. Perhaps an open parking lot
Start up car and make sure e-brake is on.
Put car in drive, and while pressing down on the brake pedal, press the gas.
Your engine will move around a bit but, if its a bad mount you'll notice it move like it wants to jump out of the engine bay.
this would be easier if someone helps.
At 90k chances are its your mount.
Keep in mind, if your side mount ( probably passenger side ) is in need of replacement. It's HIGHLY likely your front or rear mount is bad too.

And it's a 6speed so drive is not an option.
What's 6MT TL Surge? I haven't heard of this.
This is only a thought and probably not the problem but.... I have a vibrations at low speeds caused by crappy bad year tires. if you rotate your tires and it gets better or worse then there is at least part of the problem
im having the exact issue. vibration at lower rpms when the engine comes up on peak torque. def more when its under load. i also have balanced the tires, rotated the tires, done an alignment, all that. mine has close to 160k. bought it with 150k. mine has very new bridgestone RE960AS poles on it. im thinking axles or intermediate shaft.
I'm getting the same thing around 4k rmps in every gear and like OP said under load. So either a motor mount or the infamous 6mt "surge"...time to do a lil searching lol cuz I never heard that before
i have a 100k on my car it's a 6MT too. i went to do the timing belt and right as i took off the side mount found it worn out. i looked around excelerate has a mount kit i am thinking about. so i would say good chance it's the mounts. good thing is the timing belt was good i am still going to change it just not right now. any one finds out about that surge let me know.
front and rear mounts take the most of the abuse. You can tell if the side mount needs replacing if the rubber cap where the top of the mount bolts to the block is cracked or loose.
