Tracking down the goddamn engine whining noise.

I know a few people here are having this same noise.. I have tried:

- Replaced the alternator
- Replaced idler pulley
- Replaced tensioner pulley.

- Removed all tension from the belt, noise is still there.
- Noise is there regardless of AC on or off
- Noise increases with engine RPM

like seriously wtf is causing this? Now i think it's probably coming from the engine itself.

Somebody said there is a recall / tsb on the AC unit but i can't find this anywhere.. is there a TSB?

All i can think of now is taking it to the dealer to have them look at it.

Take the belt off and start it if the noise is gone it is most likely the water pump if it still makes the noise with the belt off it's the oil pump

Maybe he means the electrical system ground?

I've heard that in an old Celica. The thing sounded like it had a supercharger: as the revs climbed, there was always a weird whining noise coming through the speakers. Ended up being a bad ground feeding back into the electrical system.

Long shot, but maybe?

noise is still there with the belt off, so if you're right its the oil pump. If that's what the noise is then does that mean it's on its way out?

hmm maybe. but it really does sound like it's coming out of the engine.

Mine was at dealer for 2 weeks.

It is back there again.

However, mine only does with A/C on

-Replaced idler pulley
- Replaced tensioner pulley.
- Brand new belt

Noise still there. They now got the Acura district manager involved.

Thank god for warranty

^ yeah so i just did that exact same stuff myself this weekend and the noise is there still. Like Utah says it may be the oil pump. Cause it STILL makes the noise when the belt is off completely.

Luckily you have warranty cause i paid $100ish for all that shit for no reason

Per dealer noise is from expansion valve

Has been ordered, will be here Thursday

Interestingly enough lots of Gen 1 TSX owners had same problem, where dealer replaced all bearings, belts, pulleys, only to find its the expansion valve:

So you think its gotta be the oil pump?
Does that noise mean its going to die soon?
Is there a TSB on it?
