All of the 3G TL up to 2007 I believe have Powersteering recalls. You will be covered under warranty so make an appointment and take it into your dealership.
It sounds like your powersteering hose is shot but I am not certain.
I would also pm racingheart03 for more details, he's a very nice guy and seems to know a whole lot about TLs.

Most likely your system has air contamination due to a leaking o ring at the pump. If your car has not had the recall performed head to the dealer. The replacement of the seal is part of the recall. If you have had the recall performed the seal may have been damaged during installation. (Thanks for the props Octoberfestfan)

Take it back. You can try to fix it yourself if they give you any lip. Its an easy fix.

I have the exact same problem right now and I will be taking it back to the dealer. Interestingly though, my 03 V6 Accord did the same thing and I had to replace the power steering pump.

If its foamy then the system is usually pulling in air. If its not and you have the same noise youll likely need a pump.

Mine's doing the same thing - 6MT, not auto. Took it into the dealer 2 weeks ago and they told me its "normal" and nothing to worry about. They scheduled me in to do the recall in 3 weeks time because it takes a complete day to do and that's the first appointment they can give me. Problem is that the noise is worst in the early morning after the car has been sitting all night in the cold. By the time I drive to the dealership everything is warm and the noise is gone. I am going to drop it off the night before when I take it in for the recall then it will be nice and cold when they start it up the next morning and they will hear the sound at its worst.

BTW, there have been many other threads about this problem - search and you will find!

just got call from dealer

Well I dropped off the car this morning and they did the power steering hose recall and the wiper motor recall. They said that they need to reseal the power steering pump and that would cost around $300 since my car isn't under warranty. I wonder if the reason for that is because of the hose recall.

I have a 93 integra gsr with the original b17 engine and the original ps pump on 135k miles with no problems, it really dissapoints me that with a newer car like this there would be a problem with the pump.

its gunna be.....

$326.96 for taking out the pump, opening it up and changing all seals.

Should I let them do it or would it be better to go somewhere other than the dealer.

My dad is pretty good at working on cars so i'm wondering if it would be better to just get the pump and tell my dad to help me replace it.

I'm really stressed on money right now thats why i'm really looking for the cheapest way to go......

I have this same problem. I'm going to be taking to the dealer for the recall this saturday... but if the problem persists I'm gonna blame it on the hose leak and demand a new pump.. we'll see how it goes.. Meanwhile keep us updated on what you had to do...

Hose really cant be blamed for the P/S pump failure but you can try.

...

well just got back from dealer. i asked if the reason to the pump failure might have been from the defective hoses and they said no because the leak was coming from the pump and not the hoses. i let him know that a lot of people on acurazine are posting about having the same problem, i asked if honda was doing anything to fix this problem and he said that there's nothing they can do. they gave me a 27 point inspection paper of some test they did on my car, it showed that my car needs new cabin filter, new air filter, tire rotation and front brake pads. its weird cause i have a aem intake, just changed the cabin filter no less than 2 months ago and brake pads were also changed recently, rotation was done about 2 weeks ago.

i called checkers and ordered a new pump with lifetime warranty for 119.99. my dad is going to help me replace it tommorow.

Easy stuff. Serp belt off, two bolts for the feed hose, 1 clamp for the supply line and two bolts holding the pump down.

Sounds like mine will also need the pump replacement when it goes in for the recall at the end of the month. Might glad I purchased the extended comprehensive warranty with the car - got it as an Acura Certified series preowned back in July 08. It's covered bumper to bumper 'till Aug. 2011 or 160,000 kms

Angry i had same problem

my car had the same problem and acura dealer charge me $750 to fix it. my friend's TL has the same problem too.
I feel really unfair to pay this money since many of the TL having the same problem and Honda is not doing anything for it

hey uc05tl I think I may have the same problem as you. After having warmed up my car and while turning the wheel in D, I can hear some type of chirping/squeak ... I had an appointment scheduled for today at Weir canyon but because of the fires they had to supposedly evacuate the dealer as well ... I hope anyone and everyone affected by the fires are safe!

I'm having the same issue! Sounds like connected to power steering. When the car is in park, and I crank it up, the sound is noticeable. If i turn the wheel slightly, the sound is amplified even more! I've lifted the hood, and removed teh plastic covering and have found teh sound to be in that area. I topped off my power steering fluid, thinking that woudl help, (not really). So, i'm not sure if its the belt or what. I have noticed that after about 5-10mins of driving, the sound does go away until the engine becomes cold again. Any light on this situation?

failed power steering pumps seem like they are becoming a common problem in the 3g tl's. i had mine replaced under warranty a few months ago and i think the bill said that if it wasn't under warranty it probably woulda cost around 300-something. oh well, not as bad as bad tranny's in the 2g's and seems like a fairly easy dealer fix, but wth??

I have the Same problem, it seems that it gets worse in the mornings when the Tempatures are very cold. I am now looking to get an aftermarket Power Steering pump
does anyone have any suggestion where we could find good parts at a good price.
Thank you for this Thread.

I think the problem is likely directly related to the power steering hose recall. If the rubber of the hose is brittle (reason for the recall in the first place) then it is quite likely that it could leak fluid and potentially damage the pump.

Acura should take responsibility for any damage that the faulty hose causes and replace the pumps as well as part of the recall. IMO

Ditto!!! I've noticed the same noise now that it is really getting cold(Midwest). It is really noticable when you're turing the wheel. I'll be contacting the dealership soon.

I was researching this last year - only happens when the temperature drops.
I'm over a 100K so pump is due to be changed anyway. I figured last year was premature failure but im out of the warranty also. Already did the hose recall and it didn't fix it.

Took mine in on Friday for the recall and they told me that replacing the pump is part of the recall so they changed it and now the whine has gone. I just hope it doesn't return!!!

You are totally correct I originally did the recall on 11/11/08 and my car started making the noise louder after that. I took my car on Saturday and They gave me a loner for the weekend 09 TL , . The problem of the car only makes the noise when is under 40' degrees. I when to the dealership yesterday and it was 44 ' degrees and my car did not make the noise. They told me to leave it for another night and for me to keep the loaner.
Around 4:00pm yesterday I receive a message telling me that they have fixed my car. I called them back and they told me that it was missing an O ring at the pump. It looks like when they did the recall they did not replace the ring and that causes for the system to take air and make the noise.
I have to give compliments to RACINGHART03 if you had not made your post I was about to replace the power steering pump.
Thanks

They probably did not replace the O ring when they did the recall.
Tell them that the noise started after they did the recall. It work for me .
