Check Engine Light Flash

Hello!

I have a question concerning the acceleration of my 2004 TL:

Whenever I accelerate full throttle from a low speed to about 60 MPH, the car begins to flash the picture of the engine. I immediately release the acceleration and coast; the light stops flashing when I go do to about 25 MPH.

Has anyone had a similar experience, or a clue as to what could be the problem? It's annoying to second-guess myself whenever I'm doing any spirited-driving.

Thank you!

Sounds like the engine is misfiring. This can be caused by a bunch of things. I would try to pull the code and go from there.

Will it create a code even though the light isn't permanent?

honda vehicles store temporary and permanent dtc's (diagnostic trouble codes) definately need to have the codes pulled to go further, misfire, egr issues, a number of things could be the culprit

There is at least one tsb for 04/05 for this. (MIL under hard acceleration. The ECU was falsely sensing misfire under hard acceleration and needs to be reflashed). Take it into the dealer or call them and see if the TSB has been applied.

Thank you for the insight. Given it's a TSB and not a recall, do you think it might be expensive?

If they won't goodwill it, they will probably charge you for .5 hour labor. It's a 15 minute procedure: plug in the HDS, hit a couple of keys and it's done.
