Check Engine Light after a takeover on the highway...got worse
i have a 05 acura tl at approx 174000kms 2nd owner had it since feb.
last night i was on the highway and i had to take over a slow moving vehicle in front of me. so i switched lanes and accelerated. i stepped on the gas half way to flooring it and what had happen was the car had a few seconds of lag n then it just took off and i had taken over the person.
but after that happened my engine light came on.
it was fine until i drove another 20kms and parked it and a few hours later i had to go back home and the car was running fine on the highway despite the engine light.
the one thing i did notice was that the pedal seemed a little bit more sensative and it would accelerate a lil bit quciker witht he touch of the pedal.
the problem started about 30mins into driving the vehicle. you started to feel the gears shift with a lag, the car started to jerk and eventually i was only available to drive up to 40km/ph and it wouldnt shift gear.
but when id turn off the car for a few mins and start it up again then it'd be fine for about another 10mins and the same issue would occur.
im thinking its the tranny but dont know if the engine light comes on for that :S. i didnt touch the tiptronic since the issue began. i only use the tiptronic about 4 times since ive owned the car but usage was minimal.
i had changed my tranmission fluid by acura 2 weeks ago.
any thoughts and comments would be helpful so i can get an idea on what the problem is before i take it to a shop...not looking forward to bringing it to the dealership due to high cost to fix it.
if this is a repost i wouldnt mind a link to the different thread.
thanks
p.s my knowledge on cars is minimal

the easiest thing to do would be to go to autozone or pepboys or somewhere where they can read the code for free. Write down the code/s and post them up here. I'm guessing that it's a problem with the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor.
hmm ok now would that be and expensive fix? the thing that troubles me is the car wont switch gears after roughly 10mins of driving. the engine keeps reving and stays between 40kms/ph to 50kms/ph also jerks back and for while of driving like that eventually not being able to accelerate anymore and i would have to restart the car to go keep it going...
U have to find out what the check engine light is for, would stop the guessin
My uncle had similar problem with a volvo with the pedal position sensor, wouldbt go past 15mph!....but he didt have a check engine

On the driver side of the car, under the dash to the far left. If you get on your knees, and pop ur head under the steering column, the port is underneath right near the hood pop. take a lookaround its easy to find.
There are several possibilities. You have an electronics issue which is most likely and the most desirable. One word of advice, electronic issues can quickly cause mechanical failure. Time is of the essence when dealing with auto transmissions. Many small problems start out this way and after a few days of driving with them you need a new transmission.
Acura will only diagnose it as a failed transmission. The can't and wont' troubleshoot, they only replace transmissions. I would take it to a GOOD independent transmission shop. It could be as simple as a TCC solenoid or it could be the converter itself. It is a circuit code so most likely at this point it's just a cheap fix. Keep in mind, if the torque convertor won't lock, you will build up more heat than usual especially on the freeway.
Back to the basics, I know the fluid is new, but what does it look and smell like?
Take it up to 65mph and cruise steady state for a few seconds. Then give it just a little throttle. RPMs should not instantly increase if the convertor is locked. They should only increase as your speed increases. If the rpms increase right away your torque convertor is not locking and at least at this point you know it's either a convertor or electronic issue.....most likely.

i cant take it more than 50kms or it would start to down shift then up shift. the only thing that worries me is that wen i put the gear in park i hear a quick noise similar to an empty water bottle being squished. another than that no other noises while the car is shifting down and up.
i havent driven it all since my last mini test drive around the neighbourhood.
