buzzing/hissing/static sound from rear speakers 06TL
I am a new member hear and read through all 26 pages of this forum. I'm very surprised nobody has commented or noticed the noise from the rear speakers in the 2006 TL.
If you don't turn on the radio or navigation system in the '06 TL, and sit in the back seats, you can hear a hissing/buzzing, sound from the speakers. It sounds similar to having your speakers turned on even though they shouldn't be. I've taken my car into the dealership complaining that the rear speakers sound like they are on even with the radio and navigation turned off. I have no other way of describing the sound except that it sounds like a static tv channel or a type of hissing sound of an amplifier that is turned on and won't turn off.
I thought that there must be a loose wiring problem in my car, or I had a bad amplifier. It turns out, it is just a part of the car. I went out with the technician and checked two more TL's, and both have the same sound that I described. He explained that it may not be a speaker problem, but the sound coming from the fuel pump underneath the rear seat and traveling through the speaker hole. Another Acura rep explained it's part of the design and nothing can be done about the sound.
Am I the only one here so anal enough to notice this sound? I expected others to encounter the same issue, but noticed that noone has mentioned anything similar to the issue I described. Don't get me wrong, I love my new car. I just feel kinda stupid that I thought this was such a big issue for a while, it bugged me and I worried about the repairs for weeks, and it turns out it's just part of the car. I stressed myself out for no reason.
Any comments appreciated.

I haven't noticed your problem yet in my 2006 model with Navigation but the dealers response sounds fishy to me. A couple things to think about: does the pop happen with the key in the Accessory position ? (i.e. the fuel pump would not be running in this case and thus wouldn't be responsible for the noise). I wouldn't rule out the amp either since the amp must drive the mid-range speaker on the dash during navigation. I suspect the amp powers up regardless of hitting OK for the Navigation. I presume there is a fuse that could be pulled to unpower the amp and sound system to isolate the cause of the noise to either the sound system or some other system.
I do have a similar sound from my front driver's side speaker though.
Most of the time this speaker is dead with little or no sound coming from it, but it hisses, pops, and cracks on occassion (like today) and it drives you bonkers. I haven't tried turning off the radio yet but will see if it goes away. I've had this problem for a couple of weeks now will take it in next week for a look. My first guess was a blown speaker but I'm now wondering if it's a wiring issue because of the intermittancy of the problem.
Good luck!

thanks for the response. i'm pretty sure it is just part of the '06 TL, as I've been in a few and noticed the noise from all of them.
basically, turn on the car, dont push OK, make sure the radio is off. If you sit in the rear and stick your head over the speaker, you can hear a hissing sound. It bothered me for a few weeks, and they've tried to fix it, but couldn't do anything about the noise. if anyone miraculously figures out a fix, i'd be forever indebted, but i don't think it would be a very easy fix, as they worked on my car for a VERY long time, with no resolution.
you can still hear the sound when you turn on the car without starting the ignition, so yeah, it's probably a speaker or amp issue rather than a fuel pump issue.

hey LaCostaRacer, did you ever get your speaker problem figured out and fixed? I'm having the exact same problem with my front passenger door speaker and Acura failed to fix it yesterday for me so I need to take it in again next week. Any info. is appreciated as I don't want to take my TL in a bunch of times in order for them to figure out what the problem is.
Thanks,

I did get the problem fixed. I took it into the dealer and they ordered a new speaker for me. Went in the following day when the speaker came in and they swapped it out while I waited. It was a pretty painless thing. No problems any more! I have since bought some DVD-A's and am really enjoying the sound system again.
its normal for the tl. cause the amp is always on even if you shut the radio off. Thats cause of the phone thing u can use with the tl HFL. so basically u always have the speakers at volume zero
wich of course makes some noise. It becomes a little worse when u put an aftermarket amplifier after the stock amp. but who cares. dont forgett u paid 31 000 for a car not 50 +
