Have read several thrreads on people losing power to the blower motor. If all the fuses and relays are ok...most likely the culprit is the blower resistor ( or transistor as honda calls it) you can diagnos the resistor by simply jumping the black and black/blue wires that go to the resistor. if the fan comes on with the ignition on it is a bad resistor. HOWEVER! My 04 just had this problem. I pulled off the plastic cover to the electronics inside the resistor. It had some corrosion around some of the solder contacts and it looks like the corrosion was shorting it out. I scraped off the corrosion and blasted the whole thing out real quick with brake cleaner AND IT WORKS AGAIN!!! So I guess to all those people with the blower prob...just try cleaning the resistor...it may save you some chedar!!!

Good post. I had the same issue with my old '97 grand prix. My fan would only work at the highest fan setting (the other speeds failed one at a time). I replaced the blower motor and dash switch before realizing neither of those were the culprit. Finally searched my fan issue and replaced the blower motor resistor for the fix (it was a lot cheaper than the blower motor!). Is the resistor in the TL also on the passenger side firewall....PITA to get to?

 

Very common issue. I don't believe the transistor for the TL motor is serviceable. I know on the MDX it can be swapped but the part diagram doesn't show it as a serviceable item on the TL; correct me if I'm wrong (e.g. can't be removed without cutting the molding of the blower motor). Glad it was a quick fix. Hopefully that did the trick, usually when a blower motor goes it goes in spurts.

 

Yup, it can. It's totally separate from the blower motor assembly...part #79330-S6M-941. It's not in the blower diagram. It's in the "heater unit" diagram...

Had mine replaced after my rodent issue. Cat food fell into the blower motor and bogged the motor. Transistor blew. As described to me by the Honda service guys, the transistor is designed to blow, protecting the blower motor.

When I pulled my resistor out of the car, the circuit board was a little charred, so I tried to clean it with rubbing alcohol. Reinstalled it, and the fan or a/c would not kick on. Looks like a new part is in order.

04 TL - Blower motor wont stop. It started with ignition key ON. Self diagnostic (Auto + Off) gave G, K, N, C codes. Replaced Blower motor resistor (took 10 minutes) and it works like a charm. I ran self diagnostic - Codes G, K are still there. Not sure if this is an issue.

 

My blower would not work on either setting yesterday for about 5 minutes. Then, all of the sudden it started working again while driving. Worked fine the rest of the day. Today, hasn't worked all day long. I verified that the AC control unit is working by pushing "mode" button; I could hear the vent controls in the dash opening/closing.

I tried to run the AC diagnostics by pushing "auto" + "off" but It just kept blinking "88".

Any suggestions?

 

One more question: Does anyone know if the resistor is the same for any other models; will a 2007 Accord's fit the TL's? I'm freezing my ass off and want to get this fixed ASAP but there isn't an Acura dealer nearby.

Well, I bought a new resistor from Autozone (they gave me a good deal $45, normally $108) plugged it in and......still no fan. While I was under the dash I took the tried and true Caveman Approach and smacked the blower unit. vvvvvvvvvvVVVRRRROOOOMMMM!!!! It powered up! So I'm guessing that means that I have a bad connection somewhere within the motor assy, which means it's probably just best to replace the whole blower fan, correct?

 

any news? I have no error code also.

 

 

I seem to be having a very similar problem. Fan usually doesn't work on start up, I find setting it to full speed and hitting under the glove box gets it going and usually don't have a problem until I go to start the car again. I replaced the transistor but that didn't fix the issue. Wiring looked in good shape. Would like to figure out what other components could cause an issue and troubleshoot before throwing another part in.

 

If you smack the blower motor and then it starts working it means brushes and commutator is worn out and doesn't make a good contact.

To be 100% sure, connect the test light and check if blower is receiving decent power when it's not spinning.

 

I know this is an old thread but my problem is similar. I have voltage at the connector but the blower doesn't work at all. It tries to start if I tap it but that's it. Any idea what the voltage should be at the motor connector? Should it vary depending on the blower knob setting?
