blower motor intermittent

Hi All,

I reviewed other posts but need some specific advice. The blower for the HVAC stopped working. I took the blower motor out and found lots of junk in the air box (tissues and leaves). The motor runs if I give it a little nudge (give the fan a slight twist) and the speed varies as I change the fan speed setting. I could not get the electrical connector off, it just wouldn't budge. I reinstalled the blower and if worked for 15 seconds and then quit.

Having read that the plastic electrical connector can melt I am guessing I have an intermittent open circuit. Questions:

1. Part number for the connector or wiring harness it is connected to?
2. Is the motor likely shot because electrical connection is burned or can I just bust out the bad connector and put in a new one?

Any help greatly appreciated. Oh, I have a 2003 CL-S but I figured the part is the same and I would get more responses on the TL forum.

replace the connector- may be hard to find- try car electrical repair specialist
Then remove the fan and see if cleaning it will fix it or replacement is required
Change the cabin air filter every year now and vac out the whole area when you do.
Good luck!

Hi All,

I took the blower motor out and was able to get the connector to release with just a little cracking of plastic! The motor will run but then slows down and hums. The motor doesn't come apart so I ordered a replacement unit for $75 online .

Looks like the fan motor is the culprit. If a new one doesn't fix it I will repost so the next guy can benefit from my problem.

Hopefully the new motor will do the trick.

The old motor, being bad may be inducing an unusually high load on the blower circuit. I have don't know yet maybe it has a relay/breaker that trips if it senses excessive load from the motor - that would help explain why it runs for a bit then quits etc..

Good luck
