Best way to lower engine 4-5 inches?

I need to lower the right (passenger) side of the engine at least 4 inches. Need to get clearance to drill into the block through the wheel well to install a helicoil and as is there is not enough room. I figured I'd ask here as those of you that have pulled the engine/trans assembly before probably have a better idea on the best way to proceed than I do. I figure my options are pretty much either drop the whole subframe assembly engine and all or remove the motor mounts and try to lower just the engine.

The ways you mentioned are pretty much the only ways to do it.

Depending on which bolt hole you need to helicoil, there may be another option.

I remember reading a thread where the poster needed to helicoil the timing belt idler puller bolt hole. He finally discovered he could remove the oil pump face to get more room.

Do you think it is doable without messing with the sub frame? If not do you think what I'm trying to do is attainable without having to pull suspension/steering components? Just trying to get an idea as to what I'm getting into here.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately it is the top bolt for the hydraulic TB tensioner

I think you should just drop the subframe and call it a day.
