Battery Dead after 2 Hours of Owning!!!

I just bought a 05 TL with 38,000 miles tonight!! I drive it around a bit, go inside come back out after a few and the car won't start! It made no noise the first the few times and then after leaving it alone for about twenty minutes it started the rapid clicking but no start! Help!!!!

Did you use the HFL system or forget to lock the car? If not, its most likely to visit acura and get a new battery for free. The batteries on all acuras suck, they last 2 years at most, and its a good thing since the acura batteries have 3 year warranties on them.

There is a very good possibility the terminals are dirty.. I doesn't take much of a film on the negative terminal to cause this.

Give them a cleaning .. Make sure you have the necessary codes.

Whats funny is I was sitting in the car and playing with the nav and trying to figure out how to sync up my razr phone and was having no luck so I went to start it and thats when the troubles began. I was screwing around with it for about 5-10 minutes. My guess is that with pushing all the buttons like some crazed kid with a playstation, I draind an already crap battery.

Update: After a jump I took the vehicle to an Acura dealership today and they tested the battery and said it was fine. This worries me. Im new to Acura but in my experience if it ain't the battery its something much more serious. Any thoughts?

That's odd...makes me wonder how long it had been sitting on the lot and not started. Could be that the battery hadn't been sufficiently charged in a while (although that depends on how far you drove it to get home, etc...should have been fully charged by the alternator if it was more than about 10 miles). Did they do a load test to make sure the charging system was working correctly?

Since its under warranty, (factory warranty)if it happens again, take it back to the dealer and tell them to give you a loaner while they find the problem.
I bought my 04 new and the battery lasted 25 months.

I will find out when they call. I did drive it for enough time for the battery to charge, at least I think so. This is extraordinarily frustrating. Thanks for all the help.

Read my post above ... don't over look the simple things .. A jump bypasses the terminal connection area that might be dirty. And if they probed the terminals it bypasses it also.

This is a very good point. Often times, this type of symptom stems from something simple. It could just be a bad connection...even a bad cable.

Yeah, I really wanted to check that thoroughly but we had freezing rain all night and morning and us Texas boys don't function well in those conditions. The guy at the dealership thought it might be a connection as well. Of course my big concern is that its something huge when its probably simple.

Update: I just spoke with the dealership and they were able to make the battery fail and have replaced it. If your in the Dallas area I would recommend David Mcdavid Acura's service department. Considering I snubbed them and bought my TL at an Infinity dealer just yesterday they have been very nice. Even gave me a loaner and fixed a brake problem (recall)

Good news! At least you can rest easy knowing it wasn't mechanical. Enjoy the new car...and "try" not to go broke with all the mods you'll do!

I guess the question that comes to mind is did thay make the battery fail .. or discover the dirty terminals .. clean them up and sell you a new battery ..

Last your up and running .. enjoy .
