Got my car back. They replaced the struts and the noise is gone. The back of the car is noisier than my 04 TL was (this is a Type S--as far as I know the issue is limited to the Type S), but I think that's because of the stiffer suspension. Also, it may sound noisier than it is because of the noise cancellation. The ambient background noise is muted, so things like the tires hitting a bump seem to sound a little noisier.

Mike,
Glad to hear the noise went away - let's hope it stays that way.
My appointment to have the struts replaced is tomorrow.
I also called client services and complained. They took down everything I said and basically appologized and said thanks.
How did you end up with some free maintenance?
DrDug - Hope your problem goes away, their response didn't sound promising...

I just recently purchased the 07 type s and it does sound a bit noisy but nothing that would suggest a defect. Matter of fact if i wouldnt of read this here it would of never come to mind. Basically it feels stiffer than my 02 Type s and close to the 04-06 loaner TL's i have driven. So its not everyone but obviously its a problem that some are experiencing and that plain shouldnt happen on a new car.

I think my Type-S is having the same issue, as well. I didn't really notice it at first, because I always have music playing in the car, but now it bothers me. Since I need a loaner, I've gotta wait 2 weeks to bring in the car.
drdug27 - I'm in Philly, too. Which dealership did you bring your car to?

Drdug - Call Acura Client Services and ask for Justin Meeks. He is the guy there who I dealt with. He is aware of the problem. He's the regional case manager--and I suspect for their purposes PA is in the same region as NY. The number is 800-382-2238.

went back to the dealership yesterday and went fior a spin with a tech for about a half hour. very cool guy. he said that these suspensions are tight but it shouldnt sound like that. he said that he will call the tech line and put in an order for the struts. i should drop it of next week..
MD TL-s....So is it fixed??
Mike...thaks for the name and number i might just be calling him.

Picked it up last night. It seems like the noise is gone! You can still hear noise when you hit bumps, but it sounds like tire to road noise instead of loose parts noise.
I mostly hear it on the last 7 miles of my commute since the road and speed were perfect to bring it out. Coming home from the dealer is not the best place to hear the noise. I'll feel better on Monday if I don't hear it.
They got grease on my back seat and the backs of my front seats (I have taupe interior) - evidently they have to remove the back seat to replace the struts. They told me they had it cleaned up and I couldn't check last night because it was dark.
This morning I found they didn't get all the grease off and found a bolt on the floor in front of the back seat
Now I have to go back a third time - why can't they do it right the first time?
Let me know how yours turns out - I'll post back Monday night after I drive my commute.

there's no spring spacers on TL's.
they only come from the factory on NSX and S2000 because they are too low, so they won't scrap them while loading/unloading from trains/trucks/boats

Last couple times getting out of my car, I noticed a squeaky sound coming from the left rear. Other than that, I haven't heard any suspension noises going over bumps and whatnot. I don't recall ANY sound coming out of the rear before the past couple of days and I've only had the car a week. It doesn't bother me too much, but if it gets worse, I'm going to make a trip to the dealer to get it checked out too.

i have a similar ongoing problem with my 06 tl see my posting from 1/18 called
'CLUNKING NOISE rear suspension ot wheel '
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151721
i've been dealing with a acura rep named joseph. so far he is trying to set up another appointment at a different dealership for me. i am urging EVERYONE with this problem to call acura and open a case on this issue. that way they will have to acknowledge this problem. acura's number is 800 382-2238. a brand new 30k car shouldnt have this problem.

Jeez now I'm having second thoughts about getting an '07 type-s hearing about these stories of suspension rattling. I didn't realize this was so widespread. It'd be nice if they cleared this mess up by April when my lease is up on my current car

Well add me to the list. Every time I hit a bump, large or small I get a loud clunk in my back end. One thing I have noticed is after adding 18 inch Aspec wheels and Yokohama Tires I feel every bump and the back end noise is very loud. I called my dealer and they didn't know anything about a strut problem. I am going to call Acura Client Services on Monday to see what they have to say.
I am sure the problem will be fixed.
One thing I will have to get use to is the stiffer ride of the Type S. My 04 TL was not anywhere near as stiff riding as my Type S. The 18 inch wheels might have something to do with it.

I think every dealer has to have heard about this problem by now. 2 out of five s types have the problem at my dealer. they have already replaced mine once. i need it done again. btw i only have 200 miles on mine. good news is the parts seem to be readily available.

It was even the smallest bump that would do it--was very apparent something was not as it should be. It has been fixed, and so far about 2 weeks later, it still seems fine. Let's hope that's the end of it. And, for what it is worth, my car was like this on delivery, so it is some kind of part defect. Let's just hope it is not a design issue.

Unfortunetaly I have the same noise too. I took it in and they're telling me it's normal. "The Type-S is a different suspension and the noise is normal" is what they're telling me. I refuse to believe that.
I'm waiting for a regional case manager to call me back.
Is there anybody in the NYC/LI area that has had this problem fixed?
Any help is appreciated.

I dropped my TL-S last night, and just received a call that they replaced the rear struts, so I should be good to go now. When I told them about the problem 2 weeks ago, they [apparently] ordered the struts so that they'd be here when I brought my car in, or so I was told. Either way, that's good customer service, IMO.
