2007 TL Type s EGR CLEANING
Recently my car has been acting crazy. first my vsa light started coming on and the car would go into limp mode where i couldnt accelerate. i would restart the car and it would be fine. Now its happening more frequently and throwing alot of codes. Random misfire in all cylinders, app sensor low voltage, intake temperture to hot and a couple other ones my tech friends at acura both said it sounded like egr is clogged. So im looking to do this myself and clean out the egr ports. First question. Do i have to remove the whole intake manifold? Or can i just take that top plate with the egr passages off and clean it? Also is there a diy for this on the 3.5? Im usually good with finding anything online but for some reason cant find not one diy for this motor. I tried my best on my own to find out this information but had no luck. So im here asking my fellow acurazine members. Please help me out. thanks

okay seriously if you cant remove your own egr without watching a video, you shouldnt be working on cars at all. i can remove it in under 1 minute. literally 2 bolts and it comes off, and its not even in a tight location, its EASILY accessible

I had a similar problem, I had a rock of carbon lodged in there and was creating all types of issues. Just open the egr valve like paperboy said and see what's in there. Pretty quick

I just remember reading the TSB, simply because the cleaning involved removing the intake and drilling out the EGR ports to a larger size. Of course, that was only for some early year cars, the later years already had the larger ports - sorry, don't remember the years covered by the TSB.
I simply inquired at my local dealer for any TSB concerning the EGR valve, and he gave me a printed copy of a TSB - which of course, I cannot presently find.
While the above may not seem very helpful, what I am really suggesting, is that if you have a good relationship w/ your local dealer service manager, s/he can often provide some very helpful info about almost any problem that you have.
And this forum site has almost all of the TSBs online, for TLs, MDX and RDX models. You will need to search.

Clean the EGR vlavle first and see if that fixes you issue. IIRC, there are 3 bolts (triangle shape) but paperboy could be right. Anyway, IMO I would clean the intake manifold too. You will have access to the egr passageway and can clean it to a certain extend; unless you have to tools for it.

If you read my posting you would see im not just talking about the egr valve. Im talking about a full egr cleaning. valve and ports in plenum.

Well for those that i didn't aggreivate for no reason. I took out the egr valve cleaned it and took off the top plate of the intake manifold and didnt see any clogging really. All i saw was a little bit of oil in the upper intake manifold. Gasket looked good etc didtnt see no egr ports with plate off of the 3.5 engine. CLeaned everything up put her back cleared the codes and she still actin up. Check engine flashing at startup and rough idle and vsa light comming on and going into limp mode sometimes. but when i turn off the car and restart its gone. WTH im trying to avoid the dealer as everything on my car is aftermarket and my car is too low to get into the shop. My on fault i know so my warranty is out the window. GOing to check my pcv valve next and report back. i already checked my coilpacks and they are fine. any other ideas?? Should i take the hole intake manifold off and clean the intake ports?

If your car is up on mileage then tight valves can cause random misfires on all cylinders. So I would check your valve clearance especially if you haven't done a valve adjustment.

so i cleaned throttle body, egr valve and top plenum ports, cleaned pcv valve and cleared all the codes with scanner. Still got a ruff idle on start up ans vsa light and limp mode still coming on when it wants but usually daily. The only code that came back instead of all the other codes of random misfires egr 02 sensor and app sensor. I keep getting blinking check engine light on start up and p0303 = misfire cylinder three i checked coil pack n good. hmm whats next?? i guess i have to check the fuel injectors..... i heard this is a common problem with our cars, im surprised im not getting alot more feedback.

I would have to say spark plugs because they are the cheapest step from here and one of the most important to keep ur ride running rite, spark plugs get over looked in these cars cuz they are 100,000k plugs it very well could be just a spark plug that is not gapped rite or lose enough and letting compression leak,, also grab ya a can of seafoam and put it in ur tank to clean out the injectors.
Good luck let us know what you try next

Dont be a d!ck bruv, some people require extra assistance and everyone starts from somewhere. Not everyone has the accessibility to openly work on vehicles from a young age.

Old thread for sure, but the following is what he was really looking for:

I bet it would take paperboy more than a minute to do that.
