Killed the transmission on my TLS (JK, another axle)
I bought my 2008 TL-S AT last month and I think I just killed the transmission. I decided to speed off from a stop light. (Not even WOT). It got stuck in 2nd gear, which it did the week before. I heard a loud clunk coming from the transmission area. I tried to shift it in to neutral and back into drive no luck. Currently can not shift into reverse or park. When I’m in neutral and have the parking brake on it alerts as if I’m in drive to turn off the brake. Also when I put manual gear mode it goes right to 3rd. Regardless of gear the transmission is pretty much disconnected from the engine.
I’m waiting on a tow to a well reviewed transmission shop. wish me luck I’ll need it.

The fact that you have mentioned it has gotten stuck in a specific gear recently, you probably have more than just a broken axle haunting you. The loud noise and the major change in behavior, I agree is more than likely a broken axle. But staying in a gear or forcing into 3rd only means something else electrical is probably going on. Be it a gear position sensor or the pressure switches...something else isn't happy.
Confirmed the driver side axle. $428 out the door to fix. It would be the same to do the other side, so I'm going to hold off on doing both for now. I might end up doing that side myself with a friend.
When it got stuck in a 2nd gear last week I was passing a truck on the highway. VSA turn on and it dropped down to 2nd gear and would not leave. I exited the highway and when I got down to a stop, it went into first and was fine after. Before breaking the axle and after this I drained and filled 3 qt of HONDA ATF. It does seem to shift a bit smoother. I already have the pressure switches on the way. Hopefully fixing the axles, doing the switches, and knocking on some wood will be enough to fix this long term.

Did your axle make any noise prior to breaking? Usually the CV joint starts going out you hear some clicking or get a vibration when accelerating. Did you get any of that or did it just snap with no warning?

Thanks to the mods for fixing my title!
No not really, it did make a bunch on noise when it did break.
I got the car back today, all seems well. They installed an Import Direct axle on the drivers side. Kinda cheap, but at least it's new and fixed in a day.

Wow!! This happened to me on the same day..lol... I thought it was my transmission too.... towed it to honda dealer and I requested a quote for tranny... $6k for rebuild, $3k for used... wasn't going to put that much back into it... found out today it was the driver side axle.
Hard to say. but I don't think so. I do mostly highway driving and it feels fine. I looked at the passenger-side axel and it too is starting to rust through. I'm getting winter tires mounted this week and I am having a different shop look at installing the passenger-side axel. I already bought the matching aftermarket axel for that side, but my friend couldn't get the axel off the intermediate shaft without removing the exhaust. With our limited time and tools, I'm just going to shop around for the work.

hopefully they can to axles as well. Sure sounds a lot cheaper than rebuilding the transmission!
