'08 TL possible tranny issue need help!

so I have a 08 TL with 17k miles and I had a civic before this so maybe I am noticing this issue because I am not used to driving a V6 but here it goes.

I have noticed this between the 4th and 5th gear. I sometimes feel as if the transmission is almost stuck on 4th gear and does not want to shift up. It makes a slight buzzing/vibrating feeling and seems that it does not want to shift up unless I give it some more gas. Is this inherent to all 3G TLs? I took it to the acura dealership and the guy said nothing is wrong and that it does that because it doesn't know whether to cruise at 4th gear or shift up.

Please let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

Yes you are correct it is a common issue with our 04-08 TLs. Many members have drained the trans fluid and filled with redline transmission fluid. Our 3th and 4th gear pressure switches in the transmissions go out and cause this symptom.

With a few searches here on azine you will find a lot of info on this.

Thanks, I actually did try to search but couldn't find anything specific to my problem. Maybe I am not using the right keywords lol. Does the redline transmission fluid help?

I dont know but i have a 2008 Base Model TL... everytime i slow down for a complete stop... i usually just let go of the gas pedal and let it glide most of the way till i come to a complete stop... but sometime i feel like the car is shifting from 4th gear to 2nd gear?..when it down shift around 2nd 3rd and 4th gear its really rough..

imagine the feeling when you downshift before you step on it?..first u get the quick motion of the downshift before u get on high rpm...thats the kind of feeling im gettin when im going to a stop

is this any known problems?..or my explaination is wack?

I'm almost willing to bet this is in the 40-50 MPH range, right? Well the 5AT Is programed to shift up at 49MPH into 5th gear. HOWEVER the car will engage 5th gear as low as 40 MPH (if done manually). What you are feeling is the car shifting into 5th gear at to low of a speed hence the "jolt" or roughness. Don't give it more gas to try to make it shift. Try driving at 50 MPH instead (and if that exceeds the speed limit then don't try to make it shift into 5th otherwise the car will be lugging).

Your explanation gets the point across. What you are feeling is the car downshifting and engaging gears to engine brake. Depending on the condition of the fluid the roughness can vary. How many miles do you have on your car? Transmission fluid?

I just bought my car like 5 days ago...it has 32k miles on it...im not sure what kind of tranny fluid it has on...

but im pretty positive that the downshift from the auto tranny from 4th to 3rd gives a really strong kick...its really noticeable when im just coasting to a stop...should i just flush out my tranny fluid and use that redline fluid everyone is talking about?..or is this just a minor problem that can be fix easily?

Actually it does happen around 40 mph...the gear shifts into 5th around that speed when I am just cruising but I use automatic transmission and not manual. The first thing that occurred to me was that the car is at the 5th gear at a low speed which would cause the roughness but it happens at hight speeds too so I dont know
