I have a 02 type s i traded my 97 crv for been good for to days love it drives like a 2015 untill yesterday slipped second to third all gears fine on freeway no problem drove hours from my house fine today it got worst in order to catch the third gear i have to turn car off than on and than it drives with no slips or problems at all for a few minutes i turned off at every light untill i hot freeway and came home....is it the transmissson? Torque converter? Previous owner says tranny was changed at 198k
Check the transmission fluid level, Engine warm and off on a level surface.
Only use Honda ATF DW-1 nothing else.
2-3 slip is a sign that the 3rd clutch pack is worn out, very common.
Check for codes even if the check engine light is off.

Jjust check fluid looks ok and i just got code saying torque converter clutch/open idk whats that
P0740 on our cars rarely means that the converter is malfunctioning.. The Main issue is the debris that the 3rd gear clutch pack releases clogging the TQ Solenoid which eventually throws a P0740, That added to the fact 3rd gear slips = DEAD TRANS.

You are looking at a 3500 to 5000 bucks fix..
Oh om im new to this always wanted a tl 04 up but type s r hard to come across so when this 02 type s came by i couldnt say no now i kind of regret it lol but love the car its in immaculate shape idk if to rebuild or put 06/07 accord tranny on
AV6 swap is the way to go if you are planning on keeping the car.
04TL have the same problems so you did good on getting the TL-S..
Yea thinking of keeping it to be honest cant trust nobody and thier cars lol i did good and due to the fact it drove like a 2015 and interior immaculate iama fix it but how do i go on getting the correct tranny of that av6 etc
Did you buy it from a dealer? I would look into it although I'm sure there was no warranty. Maybe lemon law? Otherwise yeah, do the AV6 swap
No no dealer private party they had car and changed tranny at 185k she currently has 213k i just want to know more about the av6. Im new to it dont know much like were to buy whats needed to install will it will it work etc etc
Well in that case to answer your question its both torque converter and transmission.
Look into a low mileage 06-07 AV6 trans and have a look at what needs to be done here: https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...n-swap-905115/
Since you have all gears, That tells me the TC overheated and damaged the clutch inside sending debris through the small valve body filters therefore clogging them up overtime.
3rd gear is a separate problem and eventually will clog up the main internal filter, Leaving you with no transmission.
The money you may use on towing might as well put it towards the av6 trans in my opinion.
Your trans has less than 30k miles. You should ask the previous owner if the trans is still under warranty by chance?
You should try trouble shooting the code... "Torque converter clutch/open" no no light flasing all normal now there a clogging sound as i drive i just parked it not driving it no more untill the weekend need to drive 5 miles since im moving
BTW... P0740 Code - Pick-up Control System
Is the D5 blinking or MIL on?
nothing blinking at all now i hear a clogging sound n a light wobble as i drive all of a sudden sounds like from tranny sound i stopped driving it untill i move
