Me too!
Thanks, brother...

Chad, slightly, but honestly, that's with the sun coming in AT the tail at full intensity. Probably would have been easier to see if I'd done it in the shade or evening.

J, of course they have different sizes for the decals...i'm saying they're all made on the same machine. all the ones on eBay are all the same, just diff sizes.

Thanks everyone!
Well I'm really glad that you guys enjoy what I'd done. What I noticed is there is a very unique situation with modding the base reds. Primarily because most of the time, if you are paying someone $200 to mod your tails...you were NOT going to chance them not looking modded enough, so the base reds were typically not the go to lens to play with. So it would have to be someone like me, with too much time on my hands to kinda see what it would look like.

I do appreciate the feedback!

Took another vid to show the visibility in the dark.

That's a completely correct observation. No one would want to pay someone to do trials on these and then not be happy.

Now they will be the most popular tails for a while. IMO.

I think everyone actually loves the all reds they just never liked the washed out look it has stock. This is how they should have came from the factory.

But, but, we're just friends now! Our modding relationship is dead, sucka!!
Plus, you already know how to do it, so if you don't it's just because you're just lazy! The tail sealing I have a feeling you just need to press them together better and then wet your finger and spread the butyl across the seam better.

Chad, for sure man...and thanks!
I agree, I looked at a lot of old pictures and sometimes I'd love the reds and sometimes not depending on contrast/lighting. Now, you create that constant contrast!

Yeah, probably. The headlight is looking seriously horrible now though. I don't think we sealed it very well. My other headlight is doing just fine though.

Stupid sloth. Remove headlight, add more sealant, use clamps to secure, reinstall.

Yeah, I'm sure that of the 5 times I've opened and closed my own, and twice doing yours that I somehow managed to twice NOT seal yours up properly.

Dude, it's not condensation, at least not last time we looked at it...it comes and goes with heat, almost like paint vapor that got baked on to the fog area from when you were running them all the time.

I don't get it.

I don't either. And yesterday, it had condensation inside, the other headlight did not, hence, a leak somewhere.

I think the heat from outside and possibly the bulb is baking the condensation or whatever and making it permanent.

JnC!

You should only have to lead the horse to water so many times... Lol

Butyl is the sealant Austin.

Polish? Surely you have polish for your paint still? Or go buy a $8 bottle of PlastX...

PlastX is all I used when I just redid mine. Inside and out. They look brand new.

I never got around to buying it. I know butyl is the sealant. I mean sealant for after I polish, like JnC does.

Ha, well, there's no permanent lens sealant solution. And your issue is the ugly on the inside anyway, Austin. Get in there, wiper down and close back up!

Base reds look awesome J.
@ ud -I always try to run a layer of clear silicone around the seam after everything has been put back together. Never had leaks with that method.

I started running a bead of clear rtv along just the top seam and have had great luck too.
Do you guys leave the signal area in the back portion of the housing, or put it into the front lens when pressing them back together.

I put it in the back then pushed the halves together.

I too run a thin layer of RTV as a last step. I did it all around though.

Since this last time was my first experience with butyl I didn't put a ton in the grooves. I saw a picture of RU_JELLYs lights that Bruce did that were half assembled and it looked like Bruce put 2-3 times more butyl in there then I did... Lol

I plan to not add ANY to my next opening/closing. I've found that I've created more issues by adding too much and not being able to press the two halves ENTIRELY together. Less is more, and a bead of silicone should do the trick.

I've also noticed that over the course of working on headlights =)

What silicone do you use?

Awesome photos and progress!
I thought I was the only one who ever thought about drilling the frosted lens. I tested it out a while back when I had extra tails sitting around...
I tried various sizes too, I even drilled out all the concentric circles.
I never put the tail lights back together though so I never got a taste of how they looked behind the lens and what not.
I figured it was a great way to get that individual LED look---but still manage to cover up the LED board.

Great to see you pioneering some mods!

Thanh, I use permatex clear silicone rtv adhesive.
Glad we came to the same conclusion!

Komodo, turns out I'm NOT the pioneer then! Ha ha...well, I did end up drilling the whole thing out, but after the size of the LED is opened up you really can't tell it's much bigger. It really is the best of both worlds.

Doing mine this weekend!

At least modding an extra set of tails. Probably put them on a bit later.

I'll probably do the stripes J. And when those are in and I'm happy I'll probably do a set of supers with my stock set. Then I can switch back and forth to keep it fresh. Lol

Honestly, henceforth, I think I'll be doing this rather than full on removal.
