Its a wonderful feeling and since you are handy with your tools (), owning the house will keep you busy in a good way....
from when I was researching back in 2010 (when I started saving up), I saw a Penthouse in Bal Habour which was originally 1.3M for sale for 560K...I was soooo tempted, but the interest rates were still high and I was not really sure I wanted to move to FL....no state taxes were a big motivation though ....
Later that year when I met the right girl, we decided to shortlist between California, Kansas, Missouri, Denver(CO), DC, Virginia and ofcourse NY....did extensive research on job pays and house price and taxes and traffic and decided on KS....
I bet you guys have done your research as well....and I wish u guys luck on owning a home...

Well, I've been a homeowner since I was 22 years old...so I feel you but after so much money wasted on interest and being in the situation I'm in, renting from someone would be a relief for now. Being able to move when I want etc...call someone when the roof leaks. I'll be happy for that...if we can buy now, great...but I also make more of the money and my financial standing right now makes me more of a liability than an asset so I might need to rebuild before we do that. I appreciate the enthusiasm and advice though!

damn am sorry dude....i guess I will bend over backwards like yummy....go easy on me, its my first time...
but on the brighter side, you have a solid head between your shoulders....i think knowing ones financial situation and reacting keeping that in mind is very important....a lot of people think they can afford something where they cant (eg: me back in 2010 LOL)....but it takes time to understand the risks and liabilities....

Swoosh: If you thought that penthouse in Bal Harbour was a deal, check out the Miramar area in West Lauderdale. Anything in the suburbs out west really; bang for your buck homes! Once 1M+, now starting at 450k on; and I'm talking 3500sq.ft on.... It's insane out here. Definitely "still" a buyers market, that's for sure.

Richkid...I worked with an older gentleman and he lived in a penthouse in Bal Harbour....his wife is a wonderful lady as well and the couple became close friends...when I down in FL to visit them (back in late 2009), he was showing me around and I loved the Bal harbour neighborhood....and since the market had just started crashing, it got me interested....
but wow...FL really did take a hit with the market going down....here in KS the house prices only fluctuated ~10%....no where close to 40-50%....

Personally, my townhouse was at $360K...as low as $110K sold in last few years. Brutal...but yeah, Aventure, Hallandale, Dania...anything East of I95 near the beach, yes please.

HOLY HELL....62% is just insane....
from a buyer point of view, its an awesome deal but it scares me that down the line if the investor has to sell, he might take a hit too....
Jeremy....move to KS dude....3 car garage is pretty common here (250-550K)....on the more expensive houses (700K+) its 4-5+ car garage....
