My starter died like 2 years ago as well. Left stranded in west palm beach. Luckily it was on clematis street and there were bars everywhere. Phew that was a close call.
Love Dom's tunes. Car pulls strong.

Well...I will say that for the last few months, the car felt very hard to start, like it didn't wanna turn over. Blamed the battery but it turned out to still be good, just took a charge.
Now I'm thinking it all might be tied to the ac compressor clutch kinda seizing up...probably causing the arcing and putting a slight drag on the accessory belt, making the starter work harder?
Plausible? This is uncharted territory for me.

glad to see you're tuning with dom J! hope you enjoy the tune. did you set your normal idle also to 800 (not start up)?
did your ac just stop working at all or does it just blow warm air? no signs prior to just recently?
did you have any symptoms of the starter going out too ivo? i'm asking because i'm at similar time periods as all of you and i haven't had the starter go out yet (knock on wood). just want to know if i should be looking out for signs or not. it takes a few clicks to get going but i've never had issues starting my car.

Always so hard to tell once you start tinkering and changing stuff.
Say what now?!!
Damn Andy...what you think, man...isn't that odd...put on the tune, ac took shit during my first fkng datalog? Dom and Hondata both said that's not possible...couldn't burn it out. Oh well...guess it was on it's way out. I'd LOVE your compressor!!!!...Betty won't take my car out now because no AC. Which makes me sad.

My particular signs were the car sounding like it wouldn't turn over, then it would crank normally. Plus, I tapped on teh starter with a hammer and it worked, car started so I assumed that has to be it. Funny, when I loaded map4 to this morning...flashpro manager was like, considering charging your battery, at 11.8 volts...but I know that's normal when you first turn it over...oh well...

J, I've never had any low voltage battery warning in flashpro.

Yeah, I'm thinking the having to crank and crank made battery low...battery is nearing 3 years anyway so I'll be trying to get it replaced...or just getting a different one soon.
J.
Hoping my started fixes my issue too...car turning on is mission critical...car having ac is next up on my priority list.
Everything else is great...was looking at the fenders today, they look great being rolled...just in my head it drives me nuts to know they aren't perfect underneath anymore...even the flare...I worked it with a plastic trim tool and was able to pull it back in enough that the flare is BARELY noticeable now.

J hasn't done much lately. He's only had time to re-organize the garage, detail the car (again), fix his a/c, tune it with FP, and paint a few things. Oh and hubby/daddy duties. Slacker.

Good luck with the starter J, its a real easy swap (I've done it twice). Right below the battery tray. The bolts are kind of a pain to get to, but you have to remove the battery tray. When I reinstalled, I cut the bolt hole on the tray into a "U" shape so I could get the bolts threaded most of the way in and then slid the tray in. Hope that makes sense. I was just too lazy to try to get the bolts threaded through the tray with my fingers without being able to see. Cutting the "u" shape made it easier.
The only problem for me was getting a 6MT type-S starter was hard. No dealers stocked it and I needed it right around christmas so it was a bit of a delay. They aren't interchangeable with base 6MT. Bruce sent me a used 6MT one, and it looked different. He said I could Frankenstein the two to make it work, but I opted for a new OEM refurb.
I'm sure you'll get it done!

They sent me the automatic version of the starter
returned it and ordered based on part number...it says a Honda part, but got the last one on amazon for $200 shipped...next day it said wait is 3 months and price jumped to $338.
Also ordered an alternator...since it'll make more room to work on the ac compressor, figured it would be a good time to do it since the car has 130K on it.
Anyway...turns out that previous owner used some grounding kit for the main grounds on the car to battery and transmission...well, that turned out to be a big part of my starting issue, probably what cooked my compressor and was making the starter go out to begin with. Anyway...last Tuesday while driving, car shut off while driving. Turns out the ECU locked up with flash pro on it...I know the bad grounds were obviously the issue, but I am having a hard time separating the fact that I loaded my first map Thursday and then the car lost AC and had trouble starting from that point on.
Car got towed to the dealership where they replaced the ECU and grounds...it's back in action, without tune. Can't lie...I miss the tune...car was driving like a beast. I'm gonna sit tight for a bit, get the ECU unlocked by Hondata and either keep it as a backup, or sell it to recover some costs. I was only about 2 or 3 tunes away from Dom having it perfect too...
Oh and let's not forget that the tow truck managed to put the car on the flatbed without hitting my front bumper...but managed to back it into another car coming OFF the truck. Didn't see it that day, but driver made it right with me and I will be taking the bumper back off for my buddy to REpaint it.
Anyway...snapped a few yesterday

I'd still rock it if and only if the FP budget wasn't needed for the fixes... If it's not a shock financially I'd still do it.

Well, I "can" afford it...but should I, I guess.
I'll give it a few more days of driving it un-tuned to make a final determination...no matter what I need my old ECU unlocked and Flashpro unlocked from THAT ECU to load any tunes too. I'd also need to pay the tuner again, he was gracious enough to refund me when I told him I'm done with tuning.

wow sorry to hear all the news man, i hope it all turns out well asap. i'm a little confused on how the grounds hurt the car though. a lot of people do a big 3 upgrade (including myself) and upgrade a lot of the grounds and i don't see how it could have started all the electrical issues, unless somehow the connection wasn't good, or insulated enough, and something shorted out. any thoughts?
