Rockstar143 is a hypocrite…KBP TL-S BS thread…
So, if you read back to some of my posts over the years, I’m sure you’ll find that I’ve mentioned repeatedly that I would never bother upgrading to a Type S. Primarily because I already had a heavily modified base 6MT that I’d made my own…I preached about it being the original design and the sentimental value the base held for me…so now I’m here to publicly document how full of sh*t I am.
But I digress…my roots for the TL-S start way before that when I was given one as a loaner while my RSX-S was having the tails replaced under warranty. I told myself, one day, I will own one of these…from the red interior lighting, to the two-tone interior, reverse camera and nav and knowing that it was the fully loaded best possible model.
Over the years, I had come across a handful of the only color worthy upgrades I’d consider. Carbon Bronze, or Kinetic Blue…I can pretty confidently say that unless someone turns up with a black Lambo Murcy for $25K in black that I can’t pass on, once I’ve gone black I will NEVER go back. For someone that loves photographing car as much as I do and puts as much love as I put into the paint protection, it’s pretty disheartening to have a 12 year old black car in South Florida on a bright sunny day.
One time, probably in 2012, I found a CBP 6MT at the local dealership but alas, they wanted to give me too little and wanted to take too much, so I passed. I also vowed that if I were to go to the trouble of finding and upgrading and paying taxes on a new car, I wouldn’t bother coughing up the scratch for a slightly upgraded version of the car I already owned.
So, I’m sure a lot of forum members know just how aggressively I was looking to get a CTS-V. Then I realized it wouldn’t be financially prudent right now, I’d sit tight and be happy with my S2000 and TL and no car payments and maybe make the jump some time down the line. As life would have it, within two weeks of that decision, I get a fateful Facebook message from a buddy that I’ve known from Acurazine that doesn’t frequent too often. He said to me “hey, I am likely selling my car, do you know anyone interested?” I vaguely remembered him having 2 TL-S at one point and assumed it might be the automatic black one since I couldn’t remember what he did with it. “My Kinetic Blue 6MT Type S…” he says, to which I replied “yeah, me!”
Anyway, numbers made sense, he was very fair in what he was asking for the car considering what car it was, rarity of that color/tranny combo, all the mods he included (I’ll share that later)…and even my plane ticket up to Ohio to drive it home (I’ll get into that adventure too). Went inside to talk to my wife…she agreed that if it would shut me up without too much financial loss and keep my wheels occupied with a new project for a while…I should do it. Actually, her biggest question was, will you be happy…I said yes, then she said to do it.
He suggested an Acura PPI we split, to have the famed and handsome Andy G check it over...and even take it to his mechanic just to be sure I was confident in condition and the transaction. He literally kept every word he made...which is how I normally treat a transaction so it felt like I was dealing with myself. Him and I worked out the details and put a plan in action that we actually saw through until the end. Flawless transaction, great car and I made a friend out of it.
It’s bittersweet to me because I’ve grown emotionally attached to the NBP car…but I realize now, that it’s always better to leave something on your own terms and not when you’re facing a total loss accident (been there) or catastrophically expensive repair… it also dawned on me that the ONLY car I could get to replace my TL be that would not make me regret selling it would be another TL, of course!
Less modified in some regards, so a good starting platform for me to recreate a more mature version of my original car. I’ll likely keep it more simple than I did last time. I’ve already got about 6 hours into just cleaning her up, getting the salt off the bottom, washing and waxing her, which she desperately needed. The color, well, I’ve only ever seen 3 in person myself and although I’m going from a car that’s “done” in my eyes, to one I need to make my own and clean up (to Florida standards since she’ll never see snow again)..having seen the pearl pop already yesterday made me realize that it was the right move and well worth it, absolutely fantastic car to start a new project on.
I also realize now that I’ve had about 22 hours of seat time, that the subtle nuances that separate a base and type S are obvious. I didn’t know I was missing them but now that I have the aux input and pretty navigation screen, more robust leather and footwell lighting…I have to admit that they are a nice upgrade.
This is just a post to get the thread started, I have full plans of documenting my trip to pick up the car and some stories of fun times and new metamorphosis from FIF (fake internet friends) to real life broCura owners friends for life.

Alright, fine...
a couple months back, I got to thinking about how deeply invested into the 2004 I was becoming and I started questioning my decision to sell the KBP in the first place. I don't think I truly appreciated the opportunity to get it back the 2nd time around...I did have a knot in my stomach when I sold it in September of 2020 though, especially the day I parted ways with it but at that point, it was too late. No ragrets..Mainly, it was knowing I would likely not rebuild something that I knew that well and that had that many high end modifications to it.
Anyway, about 2 months ago on a whim, I texted @nist7 late on a Saturday night asking how he and the wife were doing and how the blue car was. To my surprise, he told me all was excellent but that some circumstances arose that made him consider selling the blue car. He said he had planned to text me to let me know and what a serendipitous coincidence that I had reached out first. I knew it was a move I would make in a heartbeat so we struck a deal that was fair to us both...and I bought a one way ticket to KC. Flew in Monday morning early, drove 11 hours to Birmingham the first night...then home through that storm on Tuesday for an additional 14 hours and a total of 1600 miles. Averaged 29 mpg driving it however I wanted to...
Thanks again, Ming...modern day classic IMO and I won't make the mistake of letting this one go again. It's getting bumped down to bottom bitch alongside the S2000. If I have to thin the herd, this is a car I would not at all mind daily driving. A couple of odds and ends to address and eventually I'll deal with redoing the bumpers and maybe more...but in the meantime, I'm in heaven.

but he can't make it happen right now, orale.
my old boss made me promise to give him first (2nd) crack at it, looking like I'll be inheriting his work bonus this year
...benefit of that is he doesn't want it with coilovers or advan...so, yeah...
a local couple friend of ours with nothing but 2 door sports cars
Sean Veggie and Flip came to mind but so far and then emissions testing etc and FL car.

This is the advantage of being in the community...get good access to well cared for and nicely modded ones...and be able to sell your ride to a good home.

Honestly.. i bought the 2015 map and rarely use my nav... I'll gladly sell it to you as I'm probably going to do the Nexus mod eventually......

As for Honda Nav, wife and I traded her 2013 CR-V on a Mazda CX5. The Mazda Nav blows away the Honda Nav, really no comparison. Is that because it is 3 years newer...not sure.

Honestly, it's kinda hard being a man of your word...
I did tell him I'd give him first shot and it's basically done and he's buying it. The HUGE advantage is he doesn't care about stuff like window visors and advan and suspension and jpipe...so I can keep some stuff and sell off some stuff...
We have been friends for 18 years now...he's been my boss and there was a time where the line between the two was fuzzy and it felt like he was taking advantage of me...I told him expressly that my mechanic skills do NOT come with the car and I'd be glad to give him guidance but don't be popping over my house to fix stuff. I also heard through the grapevine that he didn't see the need to put premium in it...so I'm having to kinda take the approach that he's giving me money and getting the car and it's for him to do with what he pleases. But it's hard...I'd prefer an enthusiast get it and love it...but then who knows, maybe they'd be disappointed in the car in person, maybe more swirled/chipped than expected or maybe the way I modified something. I do realize that my idea of well maintained is different than others though. I think I'm too hard on myself.
