Y u tryna' trick me brah?

I'm with Swoosh. Replace the bushings and mounts even if they're ok. It's just easier to do it now while the sub-frame is being dropped.

I just read back a little and you already said you're going to do the mounts. My bad.

Yup, so far I've ordered my LUK Clutch set from Rockauto.com

Will be getting the following from the dealer:

Rear Motor mount ($114)
Trans mount ($36)
Rear main seal ($8)
Compliance bushings (2 @ $21)
Throw out bearing ($36)

Plus the clutch set for $160

That puts me at a parts total of $375...Not too bad. Hopefully will have the parts and labor total at under $1000.

Repairs done!

Everything done by my guy on Friday.

It feels like a completely different car. Since the clutch going out was a gradual thing, I didn't really notice it. Now the car brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "Clutch pulls hard!!" The car just feels so much faster than before, even though I had my guy put the stock jpipe back on in the process.

Threw in the LUK clutch kit from RockAuto, the throwout bearing in the kit failed during initial test drive so my guy swapped in the Acura one I bought and it was perfect after that. Also put in the GMSMFM fluid again and did new OEM compliance bushings as well as a new upper trans mount just for kicks. The rear engine mount looked perfect so it didn't need replacing.

Love it.

Last time I had my car in for the clutch replacement, my guy commented that I was getting a whining noise from my Drive belt tensioner. He said it was a common problem. I had noticed the whining before the clutch as well and wanted to get it fixed. Bought a new OEM drivebelt tensioner for 90$, paid 65$ for the install which I thought was fair since I don't have the time these days to work on it myself.

After I got it back, he showed me the old tensioner and said it was in bad shape, that it wasn't providing the right amount of tension etc. He said that now that the replacement part is providing the proper tension on the belt, it seems that the whine is coming from the power steering pump itself and he recommends replacing the pump.

The noise gets more apparent during acceleration and increases with increased RPM. Its certainly not loud or embarrassing and its definitely not the common o-ring problem we all already know about cause I replaced that a year ago and the noise doesn't go away when the engine warms up.

Anyone know of a quality aftermarket PS pump? Would rebuilding it with all the other new O-rings like in the DIY solve my problem?

I would rebuild it first...

I know Jeremy has a great DIY and you can do it yourself and it will cost you all of 6-7 bucks on parts and another 10-15 bucks on fluid....

I cant see if you uploaded any pix but if you see bubbles in the reservoir with the car running, it means there is a leak somewhere which is seeping air in the system which is causing the whine

Yeah, I saw J's DIY online a while back and it seems like a good option. I haven't noticed any bubbles coming from the reservoir which is why I'm hesitant to think that it could be some of the O-rings.

Any idea if the pump has internal parts that could cause the whine? Or is PS pump whining always from air/fluid leaks via o-rings?

You have 99 problems

and being an indecisive automobile fanatic is all of them.

Pump install will take you 20 minutes. Tint... I would...but in Flurrrida it's a no brainer.

Haha, you're right about that. The pump in stall was actually quick and easy. After having done it I kind of wish I had tried your pump rebuild first. But to be honest. I just love the look of shiny new parts under the hood... and lately I don't have the time to take things apart multiple times if its not fixed the first time With my discount the pump cost me $235...OEM or nothing for me. I immediately noticed the noise I had with acceleration was gone on first start up.

BTW, I did use your DIY for the removal Got home from work Saturday evening and had it swapped in under an hour. Took me longer to gather the tools actually. I never knew the PS pump was such a piece of cake!

Thanks! I actually didn't have to replace any fluid since almost none of it spilled out...My rags all over the engine bay were a bit overkill but it ended up being one of the cleanest jobs i've done I will be flushing out all the PS fluid with NEW OEM stuff soon though.

Haha, I know right.

I actually found the guy on instagram, friend of a friend of a friend. Meh.

Actually I got offered a trade for a 2000 BMW 745i with 213k miles for my E30 but I turned it down. I'm trying to get something more reliable and better on gas, not worse! haha.

Right now I've listed both my cars for sale. I'm looking into leasing a new Corolla S Plus. (Flamesuit on!)
