So I heard back from the guy.

We renegotiated the deal a little bit and I went over my budget, which I'm a little mad at myself about.

But I got it!!! I'm picking it up Tuesday if all goes well. I have him a deposit and he agreed to stop advertising it and consider it sold.

Part out begins this weekend!!

Wow.. congrats man. I'm sure you'll love the new ride.

So sad seeing all that work gone

I was also contemplating whether or not to trade my car for a 6MT Type-S.

Hopefully your car will go to someone who appreciates all the work gone into it, and won't beat it into the ground.

You will totally fall in love with the power along with the tranny. Are you going to keep the Volks and mount them on the TL-S or sell them?

Most likely ill be picking up a set of stockies to put on the car to sell.

Ill keep the volks for the S if they don't sell. I have them listed in the BM just in case cause I could use the money!!

Congratulations brother! I've been on deployment for the last 8 months for the military and been following your thread. I was really impressed by how well you modded up your DGP. Too bad you are giving up that beautiful car but on another note you will really enjoy the 6mt.

Dude, in the spirit of Thanksgiving I want to tell you...Fk You.
You're getting a Type S 6 Speed.

Now that that's out of the way, I want to tell you congratulations. Knowing how well you mod a car makes me know that you'll end up with the best looking NBP on this forum. LUcky for me I have a garage so that I can hide mine in shame.

Hahahaha

I just got word I will be getting the car a bit early. Pics coming hopefully tomorrow!!!!

J; don't start with me. I know it's going to take me a long time to get the paint on this NBP looking as good as yours! Ill have to spend some time in the wash and wax section for sure

Steven; yes i'm practically dying in anticipation. It sucks cause I won't be able to get it registered for a few days at least, it'll spend some time sitting in my driveway with all it's glory. Hopefully I cans start swapping parts over tomorrow though

Thanks guys!! I'm really excited

I guess I never realized how many people admired my DGP. I liked it and I still do, but I've had my eyes on everyone's Type-S's, especially those with 6spds...I've wanted a 6spd Type-S since they first came out 5-6 years ago when I was still in high school. I still can't believe its sitting in the driveway...

As for the DGP, the part-out has officially begun. I've already got payment for a number of items and am heading up to NJ to meet with a Boston native to swap bumpers; my Type-S DGP front and rear for his oem 04 bumpers plus some cash of course. Hopefully he will be satisfied and his TL will be looking similar to mine in the near future.

I still haven't decided to what extent I'll be modding this Type-S. I know I'll be swapping over my J-pipe, but haven't fully decided on the PCDs and suspension just yet. who knows. I love the stock type-s headlights, but I'll be getting the A-Spec kit also, just haven't decided if I want the Type-S or the Base front.....decisions decisions. I loved the Type-S front end originally, but its frikken huge. Makes the car look beautifully aggressive, but its gotten a bit old to me now.

This!

or THIS!

Had a bit of a productive day today; Swapped my tails out for stock ones, looked over the Type-S a bit more carefully and spent some time taking it for a spin.

Damn Type-S came on with a CEL today. Checked the code and got 2 codes for P0171, both said "Bank 1 System Too Lean." Cleared the code and drove it today some more, didn't get a CEL but used my OBD to check and it hasn't fully completed all of it's drive cycles. Sucky. Also realized there is a bracket around the front licence plate. Its a laser jammer which is cool, but whats not cool is that they drilled through the frikken bumper for the wire So there's two holes in my bumper that will be covered by bumper plugs, then the hole in the middle. I'm hoping I'll get an extra bumper plug and make the hole a little bigger so that the bumper plug can cover it. Definitely gonna through on my RHO plate since I love it.

There's a TSB for a ECU update that might lead to the solution. Found the thread here on Azine:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/tech-service-bulletin-mil-comes-dtc-p0171-p0174-813570/

Not off to as good of a start as I had hoped, but we will see if it comes back on or not. Kind of sucky since it came on as I was driving it home from picking it up yesterday.

I wonder if this guy was honest about selling the car because his wife could not drive a manual car. He drove the car for approx 105k and now just decided the sell the car. Coinscidence...Hmmm... I hope this guy was honest and did not sell you a car with a problem that he knew was there prior to selling the car. Have you contacted the seller regarding the check engine light? Not trying to rain on your parade, but just trying to give you some insight on what may have happened during this transaction.

To be honest, I thought about that also for a while. But the thing is, I checked the car with my code scanner (like I always do before buying a car) and it came up clean; no CEL or anything. I'm no stranger to buying cars so I'm pretty good at reading people and honestly he seemed like a decent guy. He was a young professional like me and had been the original owner. I texted him and asked and he seemed surprised and said he'd never gotten that code.

If it was like 5-6 codes, or a really serious/expensive code, then I could see why someone would want to hide it. But this guy gave me receipts for thousands of dollars from the dealer, even oil changes that he paid for. For something this small, I figure he'd just fix it and keep driving it. The TSB calls for 0.2 hours of labor, which is like $20! haha. who knows though, sometimes bringing logic to a situation doesn't work. People are crazy!

In any event, I spoke with my buddy who works at Acura and showed him the TSB. He said that the ECU or "PCM" update as he called it fixes it just about 95% of the time. He also said that the only time he typically sees that code come up is as a result of bad gas, so that could be it. Dude handed me the keys with half a tank of shell premium though.

Also I spoke with ACKTL05 and he said the Base TL lip kit in NBP is just about discontinued and there are very few left in the country. Looks like I just might be going with the Type-S kit after all...!

I'm meeting my buddy tomorrow, hopefully that'll fix things.

This is all good news and hopefully this is a small and inexpensive fix and you have a reliable and trouble free Type S for years to come.

I wouldn't sweat a code like that...our cars are VERY finicky when it comes to any exhaust mods...how do the precat nuts look? Rusty and original? Is there a chance the guy went back to stock? Took me about 3 or 4 months of fiddling and wrapping and swapping and trying different defoulers to FINALLY get the car settled in to where it doesn't kick a code. And even then, occassionally I'll get the lean or rich code from the front bank. Maybe it's just attributed to spirited driving? Since you have 2 cars and the O2 sensors (upper that affect A/F) are so easy to get to, why not pull the Type S ones and sit them in some seafoam to clean them out.

if you do though, let them soak for a day, then let them dry for a day, if you pop them in soaked in gas the car runs like open azz for a couple of miles as it runs SUPER rich until the gas burns off.

Just an idea...

Buying a used car is ALWAYS someone else headaches...but, that said, within a few months you'll know all the quirks of the car and forget Type S...the fact that you swapped up to a 6MT is the biggest upgrade IMO. For the driving experience, for the sound of the exhaust, EVERYTHING. Good move, man...

I like both aspec lips...so go with either...
