JayVee,

FWIW... I like your decision to go teal on the engine cover and black on the surrounding covers. Teal calipers would look sic behind your wheels .

Quick question - how do you find the time to do all of the work you do to your car AND post on Acurazine AND work a job AND lead a family-man life!? Your secret please !!!

While I am in between time with clearing my covers and trying to figure out some damn way to separate the color on the intake manifold metal cover between the letters and the base of the plate... Grrrrrrrrrr!

I have something to share of ask for opinions. I have actually been tossing and turning trying to decide to keep or get rid of my ATLP v1 Roof Wing. I bought it a while ago and had fitment issues. I took it somewhere and they did a shit job. Then the second place I took it, got it to fit, but still not perfect. Well, 1 yr later the 3M 2sided tape is starting to raise on the upper corner(s) (one more then the other) and again, all because I believe has not been worked and massaged thoroughly. I honestly believe it can fit better and fit perfect with some time. But I really don't want to deal with this issue for the 3RD TIME! On the other hand, LOVE the way it looks but gaining a appreciation for a clean look with none at all or even a smaller one like the eBay ones...

Chime in fellas on your thoughts and opinions. Thanks!

Ok my fav interwebz friends...This will officially be the last update and pics until this current project is complete and installed...Sorry. But here is my progress for the day.

I came home from work and popped the hood to allow the engine to cool down some so I can remove the int. mani. top plate and get started on that. Once that was in the werks of cooling down, I took my outside panels outside and sprayed the last coats and touch ups of clear. They came out really good. Better then expected, which I am happy about that since I have never really ever had any luck spray painting plastic. So far so good. Then for shits and giggles and to waste that last bit of the can of clear I bought for the plastics, I sprayed one thorough coat of clear on the center TEAL pc. That also came out amazing and that one coat is all it needed to look like a shop sprayed it. Again, I am pleased with the results.

I fianlly went outside and pulled the top plate off...approx 1.5+ hrs later...COOLING DOWN MY ASS! That SOB was still HAWT! The Florida sun don't let shit cool down! Anyways, I manned up and took the heat and pulled the top plate off while running through the front door to the back tossing and flipping the top plate like I was playing a solo game of hot potato...lol!~ I let it really cool off this time and degreased it, scrubbed it down with the green pad and rubbed it down with alcohol as I did with the plastic pcs, only with a lil more elbow grease and additional step of degreasing.

I then stood there stuck for approx. 1hr...wondering how the hell am I going to separate the letters color and the plate... Sure, tape!!! No Being how small the details are of the #s and the "A" logo there was no way that was going to wk. So I came up with the brillant plan to resort back to a older hobby of mine I use to custom paint 1/4 1/8 1/10 scale RC cars...Not toys ppl...Real RC cars... from stroked out 30cc 1/4 scale sand buggy to a (CLOCKED!!!) 102mph 1/8 SCALE BUGGY conv to a asphalt speed runner... I use to custom (RATTLE CAN...No airbrush or fancy shit) paint my bodies and others for $$$. This is all another story. (Pics to show ) Anyways, I went to the hobby store and picked up a small jar of PARMA LIQUID MASK. Applied a test layer, and peeled. And it worked! This is how I got designs and multi-colors on my RC bodies since u paint them from wityhin and backwards in effect, sense of speaking. The theory of the LIQ MASK would work like Plasti-Dip and masking tale all in one jar... U apply it, paint, cut the areas u want off and paint again if u pls...so on and so.

Enough talking and with the pics~

Removed HOT manifold top plate:

Remove 2 corner grommets:

Prepped and ready to start:

Testing the LIQUID MASK:

Dries clear so u can virtually cut with a fine blade or xacto knife what u want and peel away:

I peeled it off, scrubbed and prepped the surface for the actual full run. Painted the letters & applied the PARMA LIQUID MASK on the letters only with a fine model brush:

2nd coat of LM:

...Now currently letting The MASK dry so I can spray a coat of black and get moving to complete it. Hopefully, things work according to plan when comes time to peel away the letters.

DIBS! Lol. I love the spoiler on your car. If the V1 weren't discontinued I'd have one. I think it looks good on your car. Guess if it were me the price of getting it to fit correctly would probably end up making the decision for me.

Sad to report, the cut letters did not work. This stuff is amazing on lexan bodies and as I mentioned before, u paint from within and cut the areas u want and peel. But I honestly think it may be the components or properties with the lexan model paint vs high heat engine paint and alike that cause the mask to stay wet and make the teal wet and peel all in some areas. The black on the plate is awesome, but had to sand down to a brushed nickle finish for the words... I am not done yet, my mind is running a mile a minute at this point and sure some hrs will be lost of sleep.

I have even thought about spraying the TEAL in its own cap in small portions to use right away and start brushing the teal on from the sprayed cap. Sounds Ghetto, but has anyone tried this method on anything? Seems like it may work in theory if working in the matched speed of the small amt sprayed into the car before allowing to dry up... idk any thoughts?

This was the majority of the problem with all the v1's...It took a shop or someone who knows their stuff with fab'n paint and body to get these to fit properly. Mine is off a lil and all it needs is small tweaking to rest all the way down evenly on both ends.

^Mine seems an easier fix. I have the bow in the middle whereas both ends touch the window. Ends need to be shaved down some to lay flush.

Here is the progress from last night to today:

Ok Buddies, the moment we all are waiting for is coming to a near... After my EPIC FAIL and wast of time using the PARMA LIQUID MASK on the car paint, I immediately moved on to the next step. I sanded the raised letters down to a nickle brushed finish and sprayed everything black again.

Then I lightly sanded all the raised letters and logo to provide a new surface to adhere to for the teal.

Next I masked the outer perimeter of the raised design for my next attempt of masking with....VASELINE! Yep, the good Ol'Faithful lube!...lol! Because it of its properties, paint does not adhere at all to this stuff. (NOTE: Grease, oil,toothpaste...and other products can be ised for simular job/projects.)

Sprayed a very very light coat and second coat later on. Both coats were important to be a mist application to allow a good layer and foundation for the TEAL paint, especially since it was just goo'd with VASELINE! The raised surface was wiped repeatedly with Simply Green, Alcohol and sand paper...in different orders, whatever seem to work to get the surface true.

Next was a very tedious step, carefully removing the Vaseline and paint w/o lifting the paint on the raised surface. I used a combination of QTips, Razor Blade and even a toothpick for the fine corners and to break the paint away from paint lines I needed.

Now for the final product getting cleared and dried

The clear really helped cover the TAPE MASKING lines from the VASELINE steps. Another coat of clear was added even after this pic below:

Not bolted down but here is mt first placement fit for looks

as always, MORE TO COME!

That looks good! Spray that front engine piece (covering the radiator) in gloss black. You might spray your windshield washer fluid cap and A/C caps in teal too.

front radiator shroud coming soon. I realized it needed to be done when it was too late. As for the other things mentioned...They will remain OEM finishes.

Thanks dude. I was a lil hesitant... But now without a doubt, there is and was no better option. I hit it on the head first time around! I am completely taken how good it came out. Matter of fact, I just now came home from a friends shop who was throwing a meet and greet BBQ at his shop STATUS AUTO HOUSE and it was very flattering & rewarding to see how many ppl stopped and looked at my car in awe and taking pics.

Yes...u can use either hi temp engine paint or caliper paint. The teal is engine hi temp and the black is caliper paint. It's all in the prep buddy...

Now... Next is the calipers in teal... I just have to find the time to be down with the car for a day or two...
