vinyl is tough to put on btw... if they didnt have have an experienced person laying that sucker down (ESP on cars)... then small stuff become very noticable. Boats, RVs, Vans are very big and easy to hide mistakes

Not to be siding w/ the shop... but they didnt know ur rails were plasti-dipped, and when I was laying mine down, it stuck all the way down to my windows at time

My 1st vinyl job is crap... but I bet if I had a 2nd go at it, it'll come out ALOT better

Wow. Hearing about the sharpie "fix" is even worse. Id get my money back and go elsewhere. Was the GM there when the roof was being done? How can someone let that roll out of their shop?

Thanks to everyone who's responded to my previous post, I really appreciate yalls insight into the situation. As you know, I usually multi-quote everyone to respond but I'm choosing to write out my story here to fill in the missing gaps and tell new developments. Here you go:

-Wednesday night after I posted the new pictures here, I e-mailed the GM who turns out to be the owner of the business. Here's what I said:

Jerry,

I wanted to thank you for helping me through the process of having my roof wrapped today. I'm glad you were able to squeeze me into your schedule a little earlier than expected. There are two issues that I need to bring up though.

I've attached two photos that I took tonight when I got off of work. One shows the rear right side of my roof and one shows part of the sunroof while open. While the install looks flawless from a distance, sadly getting up close it doesn't look so hot. You can clearly see in the back that the vinyl was cut too short and the white from the roof is showing. Also in the sunlight you can see white paint between the rear glass and the roof, something you and I briefly discussed when I dropped off the car this morning. When opening the sunroof, I noticed that the vinyl was not installed very far down the opening. That isn't a big issue to me, but during the day I was able to see some white areas around the sunroof. This car isn't flawless by any means, and I don't expect it to be, but I would like it done correctly the first time so I can truly enjoy the new look.

I would like to bring the car back to you asap and have you take a look at the installation yourself and tell me what you think. Due to a doctor appointment and work tomorrow, I'm only free this week on Friday. I can be there at 8:30am when you open if you would like or I can come later in the day. I can also take more pictures for you if you would like.

-Tyler
He replied yesterday morning and I took the car to the shop this morning. We discussed the sunroof problem and he mentioned that way of installing it was done on purpose. He was worried that the sunroof would catch on the vinyl and peel it up and away from the roof. He admitted that the vinyl was cut too short in the rear and wasn't stretched enough. He wasn't too happy about the mark behind the sunroof though. He said that when they measured out the vinyl, the mark was where the sunroof would be cut out. Once they laid the vinyl on the car and started stretching it out, the spot moved and ended up on the roof. Because of these 3 issues, the roof is currently totally being redone at no cost to me. I should have it back no later than 5:00 today.

I went into the shop today with a positive mind-set and told the owner that I was more than willing to hear his ideas about the situation. He told me he appreciated me being professional about the whole deal and he said that he wants nothing more than to make the situation right and redo the roof for me.

In all, I'm glad he's redoing the roof. Yeah it sucks not having my car for a day, especially because I was planning to put my spacers back on, but having the roof done correctly is worth it.

Seriously, fml and this fucking car.

The shop just called. A huge thunderstorm is sweeping over our area right now and they haven't had power for over an hour and it won't be coming back on. They use heat guns to heat up the vinyl for it to stretch and with no power, they can't be used. Even if they didn't use heat guns, their garage has no windows, so they can't see what the fuck they are doing.

So just bring it back tomorrow right? Wrong. They are closed on weekends AND Monday because it's Memorial Day. So that means I have to wait until Tuesday. And guess who already painted the XM antenna black and will be putting it back on a WDP roof?

WTF you have the worst luck, I swear!

At least you'll be getting it redone correctly...albeit a bit later than anticipated perhaps.

Hey man...not sure if you saw this, but if that's a white backround, might tie the theme together quite nicely.

Hey everyone sorry for the late response.

Today I finally got a chance to put my spacers back on. Of course just about all of the front nuts stripped, fucking hell. I'm dropping the car off at the vinyl shop tomorrow morning at 8:30 and will have it back sometime in the afternoon.

Hopefully everything goes well

If the car didn't turn out right by now, Tyler's probably killed someone and is in jail.

Seriously though, I hope it's fixed. I get the feeling it's not though, since there haven't been any updates. Hope that's wrong.

EDIT: Man, I hope everything goes well for you this time. If it doesn't, I will personally help you burn that WDP (Wide & Deep Pain in the as) to the ground.

I thought NBPs were the cars that were cursed...not WDP. Hopefully the install goes well tomorrow! In for pics.

Thanks Aman. I hope the insurance agency doesn't see this thread when I file a claim for a burnt heap of metal sitting in my driveway

Yeah Craig I thought the same thing. It was the 100k mark when everything went down the shitter. Next time I'm leasing a car, tinting the windows, and calling it a day.

Later in life once I have a full time job and a home of my own, I'll probably lease some daily driver and then own a project car. Something that can sit in the garage and be pretty while the DD is being trashed on the streets.

I just got back from dropping the car off at the vinyl shop. I'll have it back sometime this afternoon

My fiance will normally point this out to me...
"you MAKE all these problems for yourself"...if you hadn't modded...lol. But fixing our mistakes is part of the process buddy! Keep your head up.

I'm with you on that though...I sometimes get so pissed, about the spacers...torque to spec, after getting 2 of mine stuck, I'm convinced those bolts aren't meant for overtorquing.

Good news, the car is back in my possession and the roof looks great! I'm very pleased with the job they did.

Of course something happened when I tried to leave the shop. Nothing major but I'll post a picture tomorrow. Just my luck right?

I took some pictures tonight as well, just quickies, but I'm too effing tired to upload them and post them. Hopefully tomorrow night after work I'll have a chance to upload them.

I hope everyone is doing well

So I went to the vinyl shop to pick up the car and they had left the car in start mode or whatever the fuck it's called the whole time during the install. My girlfriend's brother pulled his car into the install bay and we had to jump start it...

Finally a proper install...

Spacers are back on the car as well. +25 rear...

Notice anything missing from my car? Possibly something on the top half?

when in doubt...blame our chicks. I like your style, bud.
great pictures...
the car looks GREAT!!!
I was thinking, the "A" up front, thought about bringing it back to chrome for some contrast. I like that the rear is black on white, but the front is lost! I ono, just an idea.

I thought the same thing with mine so I left the ring around the "A" on the emblem chrome and the "A" itself black.

Great work brother, roof looks really good. Whole car looks on point actually...lol. I posted a few update pics in my thread of the lugs & brakes. Ordered Tokico HTS dampers too...should be getting those in the next few days I hope. Figure I'd get the dampers to go with the Tein springs lol...just take care of the worn front struts before anything goes bad. Get that jpipe yet?
