Want a cheap Power Improvement?
I've been restoring a TL-S I got from a friend and it's been quite a labor of love. This weekend has been start of engine work and so far I've gotten the Intake Manifold, valve covers and timing stuff off sand found something surprising. EGR and all intake ports have 1/8-1/4" thick layer of deposits that are robbing HP and TQ! We spend $500 bux for better intake for better flow yet our own stuff is pretty nasty on the inside after 200K miles. He's used seafoam and the like, and let me tell you the EGR system by itself is dirty and leaving a lof of deposits. Wish I had taken some before pics but the amount of disolved grease is incredible.
It's soaking in purple power to degrease the innards, but I've changed the tub 2x and both times it had quite the junk dissolved in the solution. Quick rinse of water and repeat.
If you have a TL with higher miles, take an afternoon and do it and you'll be sure to gain a few HP/TQ with your butt dyno. Upper plenum bolts had so much carbon my socket didn't fit over it the first time I tried to put it on. A little brake clean and tooth brush and it was good to go!

I have an 06 MT with 175k and when I was installibg throttle body spacer and changing the valve cover gaskets I thought to myself "damn doesn't that look like alot of built up shit" and I was thinking about cleaning it out but I just wasn't sure about it so I never did. Thanks to you I know I'm not the only one who thought about cleaning all that shit out 😊 gonna do this soon

Upper intake plenum, yuck!
more of the uppper plenum for variable length runners
After soaking and cleaning with purple power the first time
after soaking and cleaning with toothbrush 2nd time
IM bolts under the plenum after 1st clean + soak
Caked up EGR port, needs to be cleaned!

EW! Yeah I can definitely see why you wAnted to give it a good clean it looks like it will be in MUCH better health now... Mine wasn't quite as bad but I definitely did see some build up, one of the places I saw build up was the actual air intake opening where the throttle body attaches, did you clean there too? Oh and purple power is good stuff but if you haven't tried it before you should try super clean it's like purple powers grand father that shit would be great for something like this too and it's only about 8$ a gallon as opposed to roughly 5 for purple power
