Throttle Body Spacer

I have never bought a Throttle body spacer with any of my cars when I do a CAI. I was wondering what they really do, I am looking at ordering an AEM CAI and the P2R spacer kit w/gaskets. I am looking for advice, Thanks.

Eh. I am indifferent on the matter. I dont have one. It would take a before and after dyno run done right in front of me to prove it makes any power at all. I guess most of the guys use the "every little bit helps" motto and I am sure that is true but.......

the throttle body spacer does 2 things:
1. It prevents the CAI from getting hot directly from the motor to keep it cool.
2. It adds a little more volume right before the plenum so lag is slightly reduces (what I have heard)

If you do the cai, make sure to wrap it in some insulation too to help keep it cool since aluminum is a very good heat conductor.

The TB spacer allows more volume of air available for induction in the plenum. The thermal gaskets that seal the spacer reduce intake air temps. It was good for about 5 whp on a TL. It's a great mod for around $100.

It looks like he bought the spacer only. There's also two TB Gaskets you need to seal each side of the spacer. That's why it comes out to about $120 shipped b/c we include the gaskets too which the other company charges $30 each for.

Those 2 lil gaskets are worth $40?

If you ask me I think this mod is definitely more about looks. I don't see how it could seriously find 5hp. The CAI seems to make more of a difference (the sound of the thing at least gives that impression but by the seat of my pants I definitely feel pep.) and we know that in reality it's gains are negligible too.

Isn't it supposed to also create a sprial effect inside, not to mention creating volume. I read that with a spacer in place they create a sprial effect to help the charged air into the intake mani. In other words if you pour a bucket a water in the toilet it kinda gets jammed up whereas if you flush it goes down in a "calmer" matter. Ok ok I know bad analogy but you get the idea. If the air is getting jammed up at the intake chances are it would act like it sorta choking. Now with the spacer in place your allowing the air to enter at a steady rate and get more charged air to enter as well.

no, not intended for the spiral effect. This effect does not work on any motor at the throttle body or air intake. the air must still go through the intake manifold, down the intake runners, then the valves to the combustion chamber.

Every little bit helps? So the spacer is good for 5hp and the cai for another 5-7 hp. So if its installed together then some perfromane improvents should be felt then. The brand name cai's are going for around $280 and the spacer around $120. U can get a j-pipe for that much and from what i see being posted here thats a mod that seems to make decent power. Maybe not so much in hp but the tq no. seem good.

I have DC Sport headers P2R CAI, Spacer & Gaskets on the intake & spacer. RT cat, Magnaflow resonator & mufflers and 2.1/4 catback and UR underdrive pulleys & Unichip.

The mods went on haphazzardly, spacer & gaskets first, small benefit, then Unichip (not sure it works) headers then cai then cat back then cat and finally pulleys. I felt increases with each mod.

THE CAR IS SERIOUSLY FAST NOW.

Which mod gave how much I am not sure but I can say that it feels like a totally different car. (The Konis & Comptech springs & rear sway & front Neuspeed sway help too)

You put DC headers and Unichip on a 3GTL? Yeah, I'd like to see that.

I agree that this is more bling than anything. What makes me laugh is people put this on to mitigate any resonant heat from the engine to the intake tube. However, they fail to realize the intake tube is made of aluminum and is an excellent conductor. So basically you have a hot intake tube warming up the cold air it is picking up, assuming your engine is fully warmed up, and then you have this throttle body spacer to mimize the heat transferred from the engine to an already warm/hot intake tube. It seems very counter productive.

Trust me. You will see/feel more gains from a j pipe than an intake/spacer mod.

At the end of the day yes there are other mods that will make more power: intake, j-pipe, exhaust, pulley, etc

But for the price, the throttle body spacer and thermal gaskets are an inexpensive mod that does net hp and tq. It is also easy to install.

J-Pipe is the single greatest "seat of the pants dyno" mod you can get.

So what is the point of the spacer why don’t I just do the bypass mod and just put in one thermo gasket to separate the tb from the intake? The way I see it there is no point for the spacer. The only gain is from separating the tb from the intake mani. Also I read on here some ware that the spacer creates lag and that’s just going backwords.

The spacer creates more volume of air available in the plenum. The TB gaskets reduce intake air temps. The bypass mod is a separate mod to prevent coolant from flowing through the TB which I only recommend to ppl who live in warmer climates.

I just installed the TB spacer and gaskets (Thanks to EXCELERATE (Josh) as I ordered thursday and had it friday, WOW!!!!)

Install was very easy, even with the CAI AEM v2 already there...

But I do have one question...I noticed that the TB spacer/gasket is has a bigger inner circumference than the intake manifold has, should the manifold be "ported" to match the size of the TB spacer/gasket? (hope my terminalogy is somewhat correct)

Thanks in advance,
paweł
