<p>I find that we scare ourselves into big tasks.</p><p>once you get started, it's simple. but you have to start somewhere.</p><p>I suggest taking out the things that are obviously in the way. coolant reservoir, fans, etc,</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>once things are out of the way, your main job will be a lot less scarier. IMHO </p>

<p></p><p> </p><p>I feel like you sort of answered your own question there bud.. If you don't care if it comes out in pieces or not.. why not just get a dremel in there and go to town!?</p>

Spoke to a couple of shops and they all recommended leaving the heat shield on. It is located in a tight spot close to the firewall. Took a 6 inch diameter hose clamp and wrapped it around. No more noise.
The heat shield can also be removed but there is no room for a dremmel or any other cutting tool, not sure how that would work. The top 2 nuts can be accessed after removing the strut bar. The bottom has one that is easily visible and the other in a tricky spot. Worst case that could be drilled out, no dremmel would fit without making a mess of things.
