new to site, please dont kill me....

hey all, got my 2005 acura tl 6pd m/t about 9 months ago...been dying to do mods of some sort to it...after reading many posts decided to do exhaust..guy at exhaust shop told me that my system on my stock acura was pretty good and doing full catback wouldn't make huge dif for me but rather changing my mufflers might be good as the mufflers arent straight flowing...? what are your thoughts? and if I did just do the mufflers, would getting a j-pipe additionally give me the extra boost i needed?

ps..what should i do next?

^^LOL. Now imagine having a pinched nose and then putting on Breathe Right. That's what getting a new jpipe and catback exhaust is like. LOL.

And welcome to this awesome board.

if you replaced your jpipe you will be at 2.5" at the cat, if you deletes the cat or put on a highflowing cat with a 2.5" in/out you would be at 2.5" in continuiously... now the stock catback is 2.25" to teh jpipe with 2 resonators and then a Y pipe down to under 2" maybe 1.9"... then you have the stock mufflers

I would install an xlr8 or atlp catback asap

Ok so like I said I'm kinda new to this stuff. A full catback system would coverall areas? Or would I still have to get aftermarket jpipe race pipe test pipe etc? Would I get any benefit with just a few parts to keep costs down? What kind of increase could I se doing it either way? Thank you again for being patient with me!

cat backs cover the areas behind the j-pipe, so you will need both if you want a fully freeflowing exhaust. A j-pipe alone is a noticeable difference even with the stock catback from what I've heard. I'm not sure if you would feel any gains from just changing your mufflers but it'll sound better So your cheapest bet for noticeable performance would be the j-pipe IMO if your talking about exhaust.

I ended up doing CAI, j-pipe and straight pipe and I am having a lot more fun driving my car around. I'm also trying to figure out what I will do now to finish exhaust since my original plan was to get atlp exhaust and it sucks to find out they no longer make it. I have read people getting the aftermaket mufflers, and they seem happy with their upgrades. So I think the decision you made sounds good. Enjoy.

Yes, it replaces the 3rd cat with just a straight pipe so it takes away any restriction the 3rd cat made. Yup it adds some HP.
