I dont know why anyone would do this.. But it should still work as a normal muffler.

The sound might be horrible tho

why would it sound horrible its just a straight through muffler just like all the rest but with a larger sound absorbing chamber. looks like all u have to do is add about 3 inch im gonna extend the tips out 2inch anyways.

I just did the same today, I went to a local muffler shop and deleted the mid muffler and the stock resonator. After talking to the guy at the shop he talked me out of installing an after market resonator.

He basically gave me the run down that it wasn't worth the money to add the magnaflow resonator instead he recommended that we just replace it all with straight pipes.

I was worried about the sound, but after lowering it off the jack and revving the engine. I can say i am 100 percent happy with the final result. Total all work costed $60...yeah I might have over paid but i am no remorse!!!

Removing the resonator and mid-muffler is called "stage 4".

Plenty of videos on youtube.

I've heard it in person and it sounds raspy.

I thought stage 4 deleted the rear mufflers as well? I could be mistaken though. So many stages...

I you go with a j-pipe that eliminates the 3rd cat, you will get part throttle rasp if you don't have a resonator. Guess how I know this?

It only rasp when the car is cold. Once the car gets to temp rasp goes away atleast for me it does.

i did

Stage 5 "i guess"
Loudest setup out of all. Without adding a resonator its just straight from stock jpipe all the way to mufflers.
Has a bit of a rasp, similar to M3 exhaust setup.

Stock exhaust. (I have Type S mufflers)
Remove 3rd cat. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove Mid-muffler. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.

best of all it sound BEAST!!!

I am tempted to try this. Going to see if my local guy still has one of those mid muffs he cut off from a different Honda. I also have my mid muff.
I am hoping the smaller straight through (both mid and rear muff are straight through) doesnt just cut out the highs and leaves me with a very deep and bassy exhaust with no texture in the mids.

If i do this, ill first try out one mid muffs in place of the rear and see if it sounds horrible or if its droney and report back.

Well, I went for it, partially. I deleted the left rear muff and put my old mid-muff in its place. Verdict: success!!

Current mods:
-3rd cat deleted
-resonator swapped with Dynomax 24250 6.5” resonator.

first impressions: it added a good amount of bass to the tone, made it louder by about 15%. Still not too loud or obnoxious, but is noticeable. Driving like a normal person will not get you pulled over I would imagine. Very minimal drone that I think will go away is it settles in. No rasp either.

my last setup was very mid-range heavy and had some nice growl to it, but did lack some bass, which the rear muffs muted quite a bit.

I did find another mid-muffler at the shop from an accord or TL, so I now have a matching pair of mid mufflers. My initial thoughts are that it will add some drone and be even more bass-heavy, which I don’t want. Not sure, but it’s a funny story how I got this matching mid-muff so maybe the universe is telling me something.
