Thoughts on rear muffler delete?

Has anyone ever deleted the rear mufflers? I am not talking about straight pipe midmuffler/resonator (stage 4) because that sounds like ass. I am talking about deleting just the rear mufflers, welding straight pipes onto the exhaust tips and keeping the resonator.

After getting my Stage 3 exhaust done two months ago, I am no longer satisfied with the sound it gives.

Yesterday I posted this thread after hearing my friends 335 with a muffler delete. I wanted a exhaust that would "gargle and pop". https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-112/exhaust-setup-will-gargle-851146/ (feel free to close the thread mods)

My plan is to delete the rear mufflers, straight pipe them and weld the pipes onto the existing tips. Later down the road I might get new tips. (most likely not). I want to keep my dynomax resonator because deleting the resonator would make it sound like ass and would make it drone. Should I put my mid muffler back on or keep that off? And should I put the STOCK resonator back on or keep the dynomax. I want minimal drone.

I have found one TL on youtube that has done the rear muffler delete and it sounds pretty good. I also found similar cars with muffler deletes, IS250, G35....wanting to hear your opinions. I know from a performance point, I won't get any gain in power, but to be honest, the TL has enough power for me, and deleting the mufflers would be weight reduction .

Acura TL with rear mufflers deleted. Sounds okay, need a better video to judge.

Here is another TL with everything removed. Straight piped. Sounds pretty bad.

Here is a IS250 with muffler delete only. Sound great!

A G35 with muffler delete and midpipe delete. I am guessing midpipe is similar to our mid muffler? A little too loud but not bad.

Here is a 328xi with a muffler delete. Sounds really nice.

I have a midmuffler delete and resonator change, and it definitely does not sound like any of those.

What resonator you have?

i have a few videos i think that should provide you with what you need to know.

I too also wasted stupid money on resonator and all that junk (stage) set ups lol and finally settled on the what I have right now. I previously deleted everything and was too loud, but sounded like a menace outside and inside... (cats are still there because I havn't gotten to getting Delete(s) yet.

I will further change up my exhaust system to my liking when more money comes in.

look for my TL videos

pretty much you can do this without cutting out your precious o.e mufflers, just by an electronic exhaust cutout, it will sound the same and same power

What do you have right now? Lol. From the videos it sounds great. Not nasty like stage 4. I did see the in car video, I guess you get a lot of drone? If you let off the accelerator do you get that gargling, popping sound? (love that sound).

Anyways, nice videos. Car sounds great.

Thanks =)

I have 3 cats and the oem middle muffler. Seems fine to me, actually to me it drones less then when it was 3 cat one resonator and no mufflers (I hated the resonance this set up gave off) while one other person in your other thread mentioned the drone for that didn't bother him.

I expect more exterior noise when I get a jpipe

I have the 3 cats with stock resonator and no mufflers setup. The 3 mufflers are replaced with straight pipe. Sounds awesome in my opinion. Its only loud in the car when ur getting on it with the windows rolled up. I will soon be replacing my exhaust with a custom 2.5" piping setup.

Okay, well I've decided to take the plunge and straight pipe the rear mufflers with a stage 3 setup. I'll likely do it this weekend and I'll post up some videos. For those who are curious, I was quoted $60 for the delete. If you want tips that'll be extra but you can retain the stock tips.

I did the rear mufflers delete. It by far sounds the best to me and I've had several complements on it. My exhaust was 100% stock and all I had done was replace both left and right rear mufflers with straight pipe and used the stock tips. Below 3k I have a nice deep tone and in the mid range it quiets out then in the top end it comes alive and sounds PERFECT. I LOVE IT!!

stage mods... yuck.

Loud exhaust notes with no go. It's the new ricer mod. Instead of completely stock civics with 4 inch fart can exhaust tips it's now stock TLs with stock tips but no mufflers / resonators. smh.

It's not a fast car so why do you young kids keep insisting on making it sound "Mean" and "aggressive" and "loud"? Cause it sounds cool and attracts attention? Kids will be kids I suppose, but this makes no sense.

Save up for a complete cat-back system if you want to sound mean. Stage mods sounds like garbage compared to a true cat-back system. And the people that "compliment" you on your stage exhaust system saying it sounds good clearly doesn't know what a real cat-back system should sound like. I'm sure they are the same ones that think the fart cans on civics sounds good. "WOW THAT SOUNDS SO MEAN".

I mean, it's not your car anyway so I don't know why you're so passionate about it, lol. Also, we're talking about spending a fifth as much money for a sound that is quite comparable to a cat back. Not everybody has $1000 to drop on an ATLP catback. As far as gains, I honestly don't need a ton more power. I just want a bit more sound and tone and for that, this is a great mod.

How is the drone? Thats my number one concern. . Does the exhaust gurgle and pop? Love the way some muffler deletes gurgle and pop on the G/E9X/ISX50.

Lol some people love to troll around. If you want to spend $800+ on a exhaust that will give you 0-0.1 gains go ahead.

I am excited to see how your exhaust will sound with the mufflers deleted. Hopefully no drone. $60 sounds fair. I have a hook up so its VERY CHEAP for me . We could always go for some quad tips later down the road. I will most likely do the delete first, get some quad tips later.

I have had many compliments about my Stage 3 exhaust by people who have real performance cars.....everyone says its sounds great and fits the car perfect. The stock exhaust is very bland, has no tone whatsoever. The stage 3 gives it a nice aggressive tone and gives no drone. Its a great mod. I just want something a little bit louder, that is why I am going to delete the rear mufflers and straight pipe them.

The only stage mod that is crap is stage 4. Sounds like a lawn mower.

I have alittle bit of a drone at around 70 mph but I can't notice it with the radio on, and I haven't noticed it at any other speed. As far as a gurgle and pop I don't hear it if it does.

If you want ultra noticeable gurgle and Pop delete all the cats. Our cats are mega celled and we have 3 of them. Otherwise we can get louder but not much gurglin. I will also be getting a test Pipe made on Saturday so I'll only be left w/ 2 cats and we'll see how it goes

Also if you don't want to remove all mufflers just delete the rear 2 you won't regret it

Wouldn't deleting the cats cause massive drone? I always get the cat and resonator mixed. LOL. Newb I know.

How much does a cat delete cost? I am wondered about passing inspection with cat delete. I also heard you get terrible MPG if you delete them??? Not so sure.

DC2many you have deleted rear mufflers, do you get any gurgle/pop right now?

I have the best of both... got a e-cutout (after the resonator & bypassing the mufflers) for some wide open fun without raspines, just a little drone on the highway. Then when my wife drives, she can enjoy the quiet cabin with valve closed.

WIN WIN

not sure I've never deleted any of them on the TL yet =p Some people said 3rd cat delete allowed for less drone somehow? Well i'm deleting that soon. Besides... its all alone because the precats are twinsies =< I'll let her live in my garage with random parts so she'll not be alone no more yay!

you will pass with #3 cat (600 cell i think) off and not to mention it was only there to qualify for ULEV. OUr main cats are 800 cell or something EACH

I did my muffler deletes (in fact i deleted everything and only had 3 cats) the very next day i bought the car LMFAO. the car sounded like a ball of noise inside and out sounded EXACTLY the same... It is possible to achieve the same loudness WITHOUT kicking your ear drums with a grenade launcher in the interior(maybe I should have enjoyed my quiet time, my previous car was also PHUCKING loud
and I am not sure about gurgling, i feel like it doesn't have much at all. definitely no pop either, pops are VERY seldom VERY rare occurrence. Cats filtering are too strong

get the cutout. i recommend it. you can weld it before the resonator and if you get an electric one then then you can open and close it on command. so itll be quiet when you want and loud when you want to make noise and it pops like crazy. i have the rv6 v3 jpipe and installing my cat deletes next week. so basically fully straight piped. also i have a stage 4 catback exhaust.

I deleted all 3 mufflers and left the stock resonator, the same setup as in the second vid. In real life it sounds similiar to and ATLP cat back IMHO I really think its the way to go.

I did Stage 3 and cut the mufflers out. It was WAY too loud and had drone at 2K. Now I have a custom exhaust with Dynomax resonator and one 18" AP glass-pack before the Y-Pipe, perfect sound IMO.

I Would love to hear what a rear muffler delete sounds like as well. I am looking for a louder tone as well with my stage 3 mod, especially in the 2,500 + rpm range.

I'm guessing with HFPC's, RV6 Jpipe and a mid-muffler delete, that deleting the rear mufflers would be hella loud. Anyone try that?

I think all of the vids sounded good, except the TL. Honda engines just don't have that aggressive sound in my opinion, too high pitched. I did like the Comptech exhaust I had on my CL-S, sounded great at low rpm, but pretty much went silent once you got up in the rpm's. And as pointed out, it costs quite a bit for just little bump in sound.

I have just resigned myself to the fact that my car will be quiet. I miss my Subaru rumble.

Not a fast car I'll agree with that, but it's definitely quick. If you look at this Motor Trend link: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...c/viewall.html

You'll notice the 0-60 time of 6.0 seconds

Now Compare that to the 1969 Shelby GT500 Convertible Motor Trend link: http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...s/viewall.html

You'll notice the exact same 0-60 time of 6.0 seconds.

Not too shabby for a car with less than half the displacement.

I just did a rear muffler delete tonight, had my buddy weld it up, just used straight pipe, made new hangers, and angled the tips right so no need to bend pipe. I also have a RV6 J pipe, not loud at all at idle, barely noticeable over stock, doesn't make much noise at all when til you floor it, I'm happy with it so far for the cost of 36" of pipe. I might take out the mid muffler too, the stock res is pretty effin big. No drone or rasp. I can't see a catback sounding much better for way more money.

my ride sounds like a stock g35 or 350z with only mid muffler delete and a cone air filter. mpgs went up a damn good amount.
