Comptech exhaust on an automatic

I was thinking about getting the comptech exhaust on my auto TL. I wanted to know if it is worth getting it on an automatic. I do not want my car to sound too loud or anoying.

People seem to enjoy the comptech exhaust, but it's also a more expensive option. I am no expert or even a novice but a lot of people talk about a magnaflow system for less? Check it out.

Im sure the sound will be fine, I'm just wondering why someone would want to spend so much money on a modification that gives you nearly nothing by performance standards.

I spoke with Comptech about their exhaust system. And they said in automatics there is definately a drone or resonance that occurs at certain engine speeds/loads. They have very recently (last shipment) modified the system because of this issue. So if you order one it should be just fine however if you have one fabricated for you are taking some risk of introducing the droning noise into your car unless all the design factors are taken into consideration. Generally one off systems do not the level of development/refinement that an engineered system would.

Comptech installed their cat-back exhaust on my 04 5AT in July. There is a definite and very noticable drone in the 2000-2500 rpm range. However, the overall sound is much more aggresive than stock. I'm pleased with the results. The drone isn't quite as noticable when you have a 12" Kicker in the trunk.

Though on the pricey side, I might consider buying a Comptech exhaust for my AT if the droning has been reduced.

I know what you mean....my fiancee loves the exhaust I put on our Lexus (L-tuned) and it is also a "sport" sound.

A-Spec Guy....

I had to do some research on your exhaust after you posted your pic on the "debadged" thread. I was wondering how long you have had your Comptech on now and what your thoughts are of it at this stage. Do you have any concern about destruction of your Cat? Comptech's site posts "warnings" about using their exhause for "off road" and "track" only and not for long term driving (overheating or such). Have you seen anything? Also, what kinds of hp gains did you see, if any?

As for long term use...I drive on the highway extensively all the time and not seen any issues so far. As for time....been on the about 7 months now....no heat issues to speak of. As for HP gains...didnt see a lot of gains until I opened up the intake to match the exhaust, will throw your head back now!

By opening up the intake to you mean CAI or did you get a throttle body? If TB, where did you find it?

Thanks again great looking ride!

I have just installed a comptech exhaust on my auto. Not loud at all, good sound. When you get on it it is a deep sound, and it is awesome.
