J pipe causing spark knock reduction

Has anyone noticed a reduction in the spark knock (pinging) with the ATLP J pipe? I had mine on for a few weeks and have noticed a very real reduction in the spark knock.

When i was under my car yesterday, i checked what was scraping, definitely jpipe, looks a little flattened out from constantly scraping, and some of the subframe.

We allowed the car to cool down to normal temperature between both runs to maintain consistency as much as possible. Pretty much all of the runs were within 1-2 hp/tq of variation within each other.

These were all 4th gear runs, 6-speed Manual 2006 Acura TL Base.

Mods: Factory intake resonator delete, ATLP J-pipe, and ATLP Cat-back.

Taking deposits now.Once we hit 15 deposits, production will begin immediately.

Currently already have 4 deposits. Let's do it!

Gotta run to class now, I'll be back tonight!
those are sweet gains just by a j pipe in a few months i want that with the cai and atlp quad catback

Just installed the jpipe on my 2005 5AT with stock exhaust. I can only imagine what the top end will feel like when I install my ATLP Quad (coming soon) because it already pulls alot harder! Definately recommended

Gerzand what's your impression of the pipe? Since you have the stock exhaust did you feel any gains? How was the install? Sound any different?

The install was very straight forward. Besides having to torch some of the nuts to loosen them up, it was easy. The gains are very noticeable from 4k - 5.5k in the power band. The car definately pulls hard in a straight line and my Fujita CAI sounds a bit deeper/throatier. The fitment was great, and I have no rubbing with the oil pan. It's a pricey addition, but well worth it

Not really, all I have is an AEM intake and Comptech exhaust. Performance-wise, I want to get the ATLP J-pipe/test pipe, Type-S high flow cats, and UR pulley and maybe the TB/IM spacer...

Yes, shipping is extra; $399 plus shipping to NY. ATLP also includes 3 gaskets.

Hey, I haven't seen many E-towners on here. You've got a nice mod list . My next mods are ATLP base exhaust and the ATLP J-pipe. Hopefully I'll have both on by next spring! Were having a meet in Calgary this Sunday (but thats kinda far for you )

Hey guys. I am new to this forum but have already caught the mod bug. I had an old 06 tl but recently upgraded to a new 08 tl-s about a month ago. I had to get the auto due to the fact that I couldn’t find a manual this late in the production year. I am interested in the mods that Mike has produced consisting of the exhaust, the j-pipe, and possible the race pipe or a high flow cat. I assume that since these items are compatible with an 07, they will also work with an 08. I’m not sure if I should wait a few months before moding my tl-s due to its newness (only 2,500 miles). Secondly, I am concerned about in cabin drone from the exhaust. I like the quietness of the current stock tl-s exhaust, but I also like the hp increase from the new pipes (not to mention they look great). Very little noise is ok, but I don’t plan on installing an intake, so the exhaust should be the loudest upgrade on the car. Can someone comment on the additional sound of the products listed above? Mike, if money doesn’t permit the purchase of these items now, will they be available in a few months, and is there a discount for purchasing multiple items? Thanks in the advance for the info guys and congrats on a great tl site.

I should have been more specific. How much louder is it on the inside? I don’t care if the car is louder outside, I just want to avoid that drone inside the car you usually get from an aftermarket exhaust. Also, with all the mods you guys are doing, are you experiencing more torque steer?

Jshift offers a resonated test pipe...

ATLP offers to install a resonator in their quad exhaust for an additional fee...

I've heard that both J pipes offered will decrease drone in aftermarket catbacks...

With my car i did not notice any less drone with the j-pipe.

As far as how much drone is in the cabin from 1-10 i'd say 6.

OneWickedTypeS, just the opposite with me. I have a resonated Comptech Catback and when I installed the J-pipe, not only is the drone gone . .but the tone is a little deeper as well. I would say the J-pipe cut the drone by about 50% .. easily.

But just adding the jpipe/test pipe to a stock exhaust shouldn't produce too much drone, right?

i thought i read some were that was because of the difference in the motors from the 3.2 to the 3.5 with the drone issue. I am no expert im just stating my opinion

I spoke to mike and requested some pricing on the atlp quad exhaust system with the optional resonator installed . If anyone has this exhaust with the optional resonator, please let me know your opinions. I am sensitive to the interior drone of aftermarket exhaust. I know that it is difficult to talk about the sound of an exhaust without hearing it firsthand. On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the sound of the stock pipes and 10 being the sound of your typical pipe installed on many tuner civics, I would prefer to go no higher than a 3). I am only concerned about the interior drone. Any feedback from someone with the atlp quad exhaust system would be appreciated.

I appreciate those who have replied so far. It’s just hard to spend the cash without hearing the system.

Initially, I thought I paid $270 for a shiney resonator.

Although now, I did a spirited drive and damn .. I love the power from 3-4500RPM. Much more usuable HP / TQ.

Of course, once you go past VTEC .. It pulls harder .

So how does it work with the J-pipe without cats when it comes to emissions?

Depends on what state you live in and which J-pipe you end up with. If your state does sniffer and visual testing, a pipe like RV-6s which removes the 3rd cat is probably not a wise choice. XLR8's J-pipe leaves all of the factory cats intact so you should have no problem passing inspection (except maybe in CA? I know they're Nazis there about anything performance related).

Here in NC as long as you're not throwing a code you're good to go, so RV-6's pipe would be fine.
