Yet another "which speaker" thread!
Hey Guys, I've googled and searched and researched and read, and still can' find an answer. I need to replace the front door speakers on my 2005 TL (no nav), since one of the speakers is torn so it buzzes and rattles at high volume. I've installed an entry level subwoofer in the truck ($300 for subwoofer, box and amp) and that really improved the oomph, but now the front speaker buzz is driving me crazy. I don't intend to install an aftermarket amp, I just want to replace the front speakers. The stock speakers are set into a plastic cone, that is bolted into an oblong shape hole in the door. I don't want to cut the door sheetmetal. Anybody know what speakers will fit in the stock door holes, and if I need something like an MDF spacer to make it fit?
Also, do I need 2 ohm speakers? I read that the amp puts out 4 ohms, but this is split and 2 ohms go to the tweeters and 2 ohms to the speakers. I know very little about stereos and speakers, so does this even make sense?
Crutchfield suggested JBl FT7-5C ($99.00), which is 5 1/4" component system - it comes with 5 1/4" speakers and a pair of tweeters. The Crutchfield salesguy said these measured only .1" (that's .1 inch) to deep, so can probably fit. Crutchfield also recommended metra 82-7500 speaker mounting brackets ($10.00). Before I ordered these, can anyone give me input if they will fit, or if I should go with something else?
I consider this a fun commuter car - I put 30,000 miles a year on a car and I'll drive this for 2-3 years, then sell it and buy something else, so I don't want to invest a bunch of time and money into a stereo that will be gone in a couple years.
Thanks for any advice!
