TxLonghorn, bluetooth aside, what other changes were made to the phone after the update?
The whole reason why the Firmware Update hasn't been released is because they havn't perfected it, a few months ago, they released the firmware update as a beta tester in houston and a few other places, i don't think anywhere on the east coast, the update they released is pretty much the same update as the superdave update except things arn't disabled. The reason why they arn't releasing it nationwide is because verizon/motorola havn't made an update that is fool proof, the success rate of the update wasn't good enough for standards, it works on some phones and on many others it dosn't work and the phone crashes. eventually verizon will come out with an update it is just unknown when the update will be released because the V710 is riddled with problems and glictches...
hope this helps

Updated my V710 this weekend with the Verizon firmware that was modded by someone named "Superdave"
I now have signal strength and the battery meter on my MID.
In retrospect, It might not have been worth it just for an extra 2 icons on my MID.
The firmware DOES however add a few nice fixes to the functionality of the phone.

The phone rings even when connected to the HFL. Before, once it was paired, only the HFL would notify me of an incoming call. This is also the case for the Bluetooth headset.
The front display stays on when the phone is on the charger.
The camera pics seem to be turning out better.
Battery life seems to suffer. But it has only been 2 days. Maybe It didn't charge all the way.
The V710 is an awesome phone! I actually had the phone before the car with the intention of eventually buying the car... Since this is the only bluetooth enabled phone Verizon offers.
There's been a lot of talk about how Verizon has disabled and crippled this phone. Well yeah, they're in the business of making money, why spend all that money on developing "Get it Now" if anyone can put ringtones and pictures on their phone FREE.
Anyway, I've since hacked the phone with SuperDave's firmware and it works like a champ! The two icons on the MID are a drop in the bucket. The main reason for doing the hack is to allow transfer of pictures and MP3 ringtones. With a bluetooth dongle plugged into the back of your computer, you can pair your phone, then using Mobile Phone Tools, a program provided by Motorola, you can WIRELESSLY back-up and sync your entire data base with Outlook. You can edit and store ringtones on your phone, you can take ANY picture on the internet or hard drive and upload it to the phone.
It opens up a whole new world!!!
Battery life... Nothing comes for free. You don't get a pretty color display and a thin case for nothing. Configure the phone to minimize the amount of time the screen backlight is on. That's the single greatest consumer of battery life. I charge mine about 1-2 times per week and would consider myself an occasional cell phone user. A good friend of mine uses his all the time and has to charge about every other night. Which is a GREAT switch from his old Nokia that would be dead at the end of every day.
Just my thoughts...
