Too Much Rattling!
Too Much Rattling!
Hey guys i need some help. I have an 07tls and i just got my two kicker 10 inch L7's installed and i got my whole truck dynamatted but the car is still rattling like crazy. It takes away from the sound of the subs and all you can hear is rattling. ANY SUGGESTIONS..
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

This may not be an option for you, but, I was so pissed off after spending thousands on my system that i had to take drastic measures. It seems most of the rattling in our Tl's is coming from the rear deck. After talking to my car audio guy and isolating the problem he modded the rear deck where the stock sub goes. Basically, he cut the rear deck and made a larger port for my sub which is in the trunk. Now I have little or no rattle. Before you ask for pics, my car is back with him getting more work done. Hope you can find a less instrusive solution. Good luck.
well the thing with me is that the rattling is all on the outside. The truck has been dynamatted yet my trunk rattles so loud it takes away from the sound of the subs. As i turn my system up and stand outside of the car I can hardly hear the base coming from inside the car...all i can hear is the trunk rattling away like crazy! any solutions to this????
The stock sub rattles the deck from the factory, lol, so what do you expect? Kickers will rock the car. We have the same problem with my friend's Civic for 3 yrs here and there we have tried everything to keep this car from rattling. Well OK we were pushing 1500watts through a hyper RF setup, but still.
My old BMW? Had 1000watts going through RFs as well......NO rattle whatsoever!Sometimes an exhaust hanger or my license plate, would rattle if it hit real deep and extra loud, that's it. Used no dynomat whatsoever and nobody believed me. Shows how well that car was made. Acuras look to be put together well outside from what you see, but whats under the skin is so-so. Soundwaves give it away.
On another old car I had, the way I got rid of rattles was to pump the stereo somewhere isolated and walk around the car trying to pinpoint the EXACT points from which the rattles are coming from. Try to vary different types of bassy music to make sure the subs hit a wide range of frequencies while you are doing this. You will have to remove panels, push and press here and there seeing what tab or panel is vibrating. Take a small piece of dynomat or even foam will work and stick it there. Keep going to you get every spot.

What do you expect? You put big subs in an almost air-tight trunk. You will need to get some air moving. Fold down the armrest and open the pass-through or you can even try putting some ports in the rear deck.
As huntertypes says, your having a problem with air movement, remove the stock sub, remove the liner thats on the underside of the rear deck in the trunk. That way there is air movement into the cabin. If you want, like hutertypes said open the pass through. That will reduce the rattling, and you can go extreme if the weather is decent and CRACK the windows.
Like many if not all of you know, rattling occurs because there is too much air movement, causing the panels/trunk to rattle.... I used to be one of those people who wanted to have people hear me from like 1/2 mile away, after numerous sound ordinance violations and age, I now just want to hear the bass WITHIN the car, so I removed the stock sub, and kept the rear deck liner thats in the trunk off... And sometimes open up the pass through. That will help you alot!!! Dynamat, I don't like using dynamat cuz it weighs the car down (not like I race) I have only dynamatted the doors, so that it reduces road noise.
Hope this helps

hey guys sorry I have not been replying lately. I have been in and out of town for the past several months. I have tried everything at this point and keeping the armrest open in the rear helps a tad.
I used to have a 2002 TLS and the same system set up and it used to sound great inside and out. People knew I was coming. Now with the 07tls. It sounds great inside but the minute I step outside I can hardly hear the bass. It sounds nothing like it used to.
I am going to go to my guy who installed the system to see if he can modify my rear deck and maybe cut it open or do something of that sort.
Thaks for all the advice. I still am open to any suggestions anyone has.

I am still trying to figure out what to do. Like I said in the previous post I am going to see if my installer can modify my rear deck. What are you pushing? and is it that you hear a lot of rattling or you just can't hear the bass as you step out of the car?
Let me know. I'm sure we can come up with something.
Oh and sunnyflava can you get some of those pics up if you can. It will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
