Put a PC in Your Car... link to article

I can across this story at digg.com. Pretty good article about putting PC's in cars.

On of the skins showed Acura emblem, but didn't show the car.

I know some of you guys love the idea of carputers, but I don't like the idea. I sit in a office all day looking at Mr. Gates, the last thing I want to do is see windows in my car. I would like to see someone make a Apple CarPc I would rather have OSX driving my system.

Uses less power than any carputer article I've seen.

some people did install mac mini in their cars. mp3car forum has mac section

for windows, with a front end program, you may pretty much hide the windows interface.

Boot time will vary depending on the hardware and software chosen. You could setup the system to go into sleep mode, in which case it will resume within seconds of starting the car. But since this uses a little bit of power even when you're away from the car, you need to drive the car frequently enough to keep the battery charged or create some kind of UPS. Alternatively, you could try hibernate mode, which takes a little longer to resume but uses no power when you're away from the car.

In my previous carpc, I used neither sleep nor hibernate. Each time, the carpc was shutdown completely and restarted. It took less than 30seconds for it to boot. This is just enough time to buckle up and start backing out of the garage, so it never bothered me to wait for it to boot. Otherwise, I would've tried the sleep or hibernate methods to shave off some boot time.

Cary, I'm doing my audio system now too. I'm using David Navone LOCs to interface to OEM head unit and getting lots of hiss. How are you hooking up to the head unit? If you don't mind me asking.
