Please help... Where do I mount the amplifier "stock look = stealth"?

After spending a couple of days working on some mods, I finally got around to installing the infinity 63.7i's and JL 8W3v2 with a lot of Dynamat in the rear deck. Now that I'm finished, I'm now working in the trunk.

I have a JL Audio e 1200 amp to power the drop in 8W3v2, the stock amp is more thatn enough for the rest of the speakers.

I'm going for a totally stock look. I want my full trunk space, and don'e believe in "bling stereo's"... I really don't want to see the amp when I open the trunk.

I originally planned to mount the e1200 amp behind the left trunk cover, basically in the rear quarterpanel. On the right side of the car I installed an avelectronic A/V switcher in the same place, using a bit of foam to secure it. The amp is too big though. No way it's gonna fit in the quarterpanel.

I need some suggestions on where to mount this sucker.

If you have a good stealth amplifier install location, please tell me about it.

Paint the amp black, and attach it to the underside of the rear deck. I also had a friend of mine get that grill stuff that everyone is using for the grill, and made a "shade" for his amp. Looks really good and allows for maximum air flow.

Just some ideas

Found a spot.

I removed all the tools in the foam by the spare tire. I removed the foam, there's plenty of room in there now. I plan to to get a circular gut piece of 16in mdf and place it in the there and mount the amp to that. Elegant and hidden.

The jack and tools will go in the toolbag I carry in the trunk.

It's only driving an 8W3v2, and not too hard at that. I ran it pretty hard for 10 minutes while tuning it up last night it wasn't even warm to the touch. Those JL's are robust little amps.

I figure it won't create any more of an airflow issue than those folks who do the "beauty board" amp installs, with the amp hidden behind MDF and plexiglass. Out of al the installs I've ssen here, I've never seen a fan.

Fulani, it's not much to see to be honest. Just remove the foam from center your spare, put the tools/ jack in your tool bag (you do carry tools with you for an emergency right?), throw a blanket in there and throw the amp on top... very simple and clean.

I eventually plan to cut a piece of wood the size of the inside of the spaer, cover it in felt, and mount the amp to that... A beautly board if you will.

It's been in for a few weeks, and hasn't gone into "protect mode" yet.

You should be able to hide it somewhere behind the trim of the trunk...I know there is plenty of space behind all that, that stuff

I know I plan on mounting an amp behind there. There would be room for the heat to rise off the amp and it would be hidden...

Oh ok, I thought you already had the wood cut and everything, thats what I am trying to figure out. Hopefully in the next week or two I should be able to get it done.

Anyone have issues or know anyone having issues with heat?

Hey Kennedy,

What amp do you have? I have JL 500/1 and there's no way it'll fit in the space where the foam cut out use to be. Any pics of your setup you can share?

You know I have the same JL 500/1 amp and it fits perfect under the passenger seat, but the 10W7 pretty much takes up half the trunk

I am assuming you mean the front passenger seat right? and not the rear passenger seat/bench?

I was also thinking of mounting it underneath the rear deck but I am not sure if that's too much weight for the rear deck to support and might intefere with the trunk springs. What do you think about the rear deck location?

Kennedy,

Did you replace the tweeters up front or just replace the door speakers?

Did you do all four?

How is the sound with the stock amp.

Is there any rattling with the new sub with just the drop in/dynamat and no other structure work?

ALL speaker replaced...
Infinity 1011t tweeters
Infinity 32.7i center
Infinity 62.7i in the front doors
Infinity 63.7i in the rear

JL 8W3v2 sub driven by a JL e1200

All speakers dropped in with very mild mods described here in the forums. no cutting required, just drilled a few holes for the sub.

Lots of dynamat on rear deck, trunk, trunk lid, and front doors.

Still a little bit of rattle I'm chasing out of the rear deck, but it's almost all gone... It's a continuous process, you kill one only to hear the more faint one that was previously concealed by the latter.

More than loud enough, near perfect bass... Not teeth rattling, but you know it's there now. Still need to tune it, it's pushing to low a freq sometimes, and I get some overdrive sound when it's too loud. that's just a crossover and gain adjutment.

Thanks Kennedy,

I want to improve the sound but not spend a fortune on it. This is exactly what I am looking for.

I was comparing the prices between ebay and the online retailers. The difference is amazing with ebay being so much less.

Another question Kennedy. Was there a reason you went with coax vs triax speakers (Infinity 62.17vs 63.7)? The price difference isn't that great.

Triax in the rear...
coax in the front. I figured the tweeters in the dash and the and a triax int he doors would have been a bit of overkill.
the coax's are almost overkill... one guy here said he disconnected the coax tweeters up front.

not sure triax will fit in the doors either... door panel may hit them.

Yes, the amps shut down when driving for 1 1/2 hrs or more running the amps at 1/2 power. I am having two fans installed which should resolve the problem. If I were installing a new system, I'd install the fans from the start...better to be a little over engineered then have to deal with it later.

I do have three amps installed in a pretty tight area...so, may be more intense than most.

No significant increase in volume, bit increase in clarity and
Stock amp is plenty loud... at least for my linking. Big amps on mids in highs = unbearably loud. It's about sound, not about VOLUME, and certainly not about bling.
