New ideas for my aftermarket head unit
So, I have had a double din Pioneer HU in my TL for a while now, and although I love it, I'm noticing some things that are becoming a nuisance lately. I don't like that the bottom screen doesn't do anything anymore, and I don't particularly like the location (it's very low). Here are some pictures of how it looks now, and how it would look with the products i intend to buy. The first photo is real, the second is photoshop'd. What do you guys think, and has anyone done something similar to this yet so I can get some ideas on how it would actually look? I'll post the pix when its complete.

its gonna cost me about 1500, but I'm also gonna need a new 4-channel amp, so maybe closer to 2K. It's an idea i've had for a while, just finally have the funds to support it. As for the trim pieces, they are carbon fiber wrapped. it's the greatest way to do the job. I took some abs plastic and trimed them to half circles, attached them using apoxy, sanded them down as smooth as I could, then just used carbon fiber wrap. The wrap doesn't exactly match the carbon fiber in the car, but i'm not about to wrap all the carbon fiber pieces that came with the car with $20 wrap. I want to redo the radio trim though because I think it's obvious that i rushed that part.

Let me work on a new one, when I feel it's legit, i'll make a mold and make you one. The one i have on there now was made using a table sander and a dremmel. It's not raised up either. In order to fit perfectly, it's gotta be about a 1/4 inch thick to match the side pillars. But give me some time before i work on that.

^ I like that one. I thought about doing that when I had the car taken apart, but the double din was too small for that screen opening. I gotta say, though that looks pretty sweet especially since you don't have any unused areas.

SOO much win. I would kill for a nice Double-Din in place of the factory nav unit. They are so much nicer than our factory nav units now! Sharper, clearer, more features, etc.
Is there a way to pull the factory nav screen and put a double-din in there but still retain the navigation voice from the aftermarket double-din? I could care less about the HFL...b/c mine doesn't work lol.

IMO the best thing to do is get a double DIN unit that you can put on the bottom and have a mounted screen up top that's connected to the HU.

^^^Yep, that Alpine piece I used is simply a screen they sell that can connect to a separate nav unit and backup camera as well as the dvd player in the rear arm rest. There is no room for a DD unit where the screen is.

So what are the details of the system you have in there?
