So I have a 05TL and i run the software cd that is orange. Its 3.7 or 3.4 I think! Its just the factory setup.. So whatever that is.. My question is, if I had a DVDRom & player in the trunk from an 07 and the newer version 4.56 software, would my navi head unit run it? What is the limiting factor on my unit?

Well for starters this should be under Audio, Navigation section.

But to answer your question, I do not think it will work. You have to replace the entire headunit I believe.

General stuff that does not fall under one of the sub categories. It is pretty simple really.

You can use the 07 dvd and dvd player ... no problem. It's plug and play.
But the nav traffic will not work unless you get the 07 navi xm receiver and re-wire almost the entire navigation system.
So ... really the only features you gain are faster hardware (loads much faster than 04-06 system), zagat guide, more voice commands and maybe one or two minor features.

 

Interesting...will the interface look like the new interface as well?

 

I dont care about nav traffic. So All if have to do is get the dvd and the player that goes in the trunk and I can run the newer software? sounds cool. The whole radio interface is different too though.. right? its got more color and more 3d rathe rthan these 2d buttons

It will work. I put 07 TL dvd unit on my 03 accord 2d)) It works. There are some questions but it works))
