I know there's some out there. My friend just picked up an 05 TL, NON-NAV, and he wants to get rid of the entire system, so I told him to wait and I'd post this up.

I know there isn't a custom faceplate yet, but people are fitting 2-din DVD and Navi units in there. If you want to axe the entire system can you just pull out the headunit on the non-nav and throw in a 2din unit, such as a pioneer avic model, or one of the kenwood's? Also by doing this can you go ahead and get whatever speakers and amps you want?

Just need to know if anything is vitally connected to the main headunit. Obviously there is a fitting problem with the knobs, but if anyone has advice and has gone this route speak up! Thanks.

Thanks! Seems like it's possible no problem. I hope King of Pain could chime in on the entire thing. Seems like it's just gut and go for the entire thing w/ a little fabrication from that metra kit for the GTO.

This is on a non-nav, so obviously he would lose the radio stuff but retain the HVAC stuff i'm assuming?

 

I had a kenwood dnx7100 installed about a year ago. They had to make a custom molded mount for it. I loved the way it turned out, I can't post pictures now because I'm on my phone but if you look through my older posts you will find it. You could get a system to get the steering wheel controls to work on it, but there's noway to get the hfl to work. The only thing iwish theycould have changed is the indents in the silver piece next to the radio, they don't flow that well anumore.

 

Actually I was about to get a double din custom installed in my TL but I decided to get some subwoofers instead. The guy at the shop showed me a TL that came in just a month earlier. What they did was they kept the stock non navi radio in and put the double din under it in those 2 compartment slots under the radio. Obviously you would have to give up those 2 little compartments under the radio but it looked pretty clean. They made it so none of the radio text comes up on the Stock radio but the things like the A/C still show up. They also got the light to turn blue on the stock radio, I dunno how but I will probably get somethin similiar to this setup when I get more cash for this.
