Infinity Basslink? Yes or No?

I want to add some more bass to my TL so I can really hear the lows when watching dvd's and listening to "bass" style music. I used to have 2 12" kickers in my rsx and that is defintely an over kill. On top of all that I want to actually have a trunk again. I checked out circuit city and some other places. They all seem to advise going with a basslink style system. They are only $500 and easily installable along with removable..

Any ideas and opinions.

you can get em on ebay alot cheaper.

ANd unless you are looking for REALLY over powering bass, like you had in your last car, then the basslink is great!! Produces alot of bass for such a small package.

I just searched ebay, they only have the one 10" woofer with 200W (not sure if thats RMS) for about $200 shipped or so.

The one I am looking for is the one with I think either a 10" woofer that has 250W RMS power and is a bit bigger than the small one. I will link the small one and the large one with specs.

Small one ->

specs :

Key Features:

* 10" woofer and 10" passive radiator
* Class D 200-watt amplifier
* wired volume control with 16-foot cable
* frequency response 20-120 Hz
* low-pass crossover variable from 50-120 Hz at 12 dB per octave
* speaker and line-level inputs
* phase switch
* bass boost adjusts from -6 dB to +3 dB at 40 Hz
* 20-amp fuse
* auto turn-on with speaker-level inputs
* remote turn-on lead (12V) required for use with RCA inputs
* 19' speaker-level input wires with plug-in harness included
* 14-1/2"W x 13-3/8"H x 9-7/8"D (vertical mount); 14-
($349 at crutchfield..)

The one I want ->

Specs :

Key Features:

* 10" woofer and two 10" passive radiators
* Class D 250-watt amplifier
* compact polymer enclosure
* wired volume control with 16-foot cable
* frequency response 20-120 Hz
* low-pass crossover variable from 50-120 Hz (at 12 dB per octave)
* line-level inputs (remote turn on required)
* speaker-level inputs with auto turn-on
* phase control
* bass boost adjusts from -6 dB to +3 dB at 40 Hz
* 25-amp fuse
* 40-1/4"W x 14-3/4"H x 6-1/2"(D1), 3-3/4"(D2)
* warranty: 1 year
($499 on crutchfield..)

I could not find any of the "big" ones on ebay. All of the small ones. I really like the look of the big one and it is very small so it would fit in the trunk and take up a very minimal amount of space.

I have the small one, although I didn't know they made that bigger one. I paid $275 installed about 6 or 7 months ago. It has great bass response. It has a much bigger sound than I thought it would. I had the installer put the remote knob under the side mirror controls where the dash ends. It's with in reach so I can adjust it for different musical styles, I rarely turn the knob above 1/4 turn though and I sometimes turn it off.

I'm sure you're only watching DVD's while you're parked and not while you're driving, right?

Install is supposed to be very very easy, that and the fact they have a built in amp is there selling point.

I will end up buying the bigger one and seeing how much I like it. As far as DVD's.. I have only played it once (only had it for a few days now), but it was while I was driving.. it was mainly for the two people I had in my car and I would occasionally glance down at it.

Automata or anyone else:

Quick question. The remote knob is basically the power switch for the Basslink? As in, it is not always on? I'm trying to understand what the Basslink is...is it a subwoofer, an amp, both? I've heard it is one of the best solutions in terms of saving space.

Any pics of your install?

The remote knob is the "gain" on the amplifier. It is always on but you can turn up and down the "power" of the amplifier so it is either a lot of bass to little or no bass.

I thought about getting one of these but what kind of car are we driving?... TL! you got to do your system right and clean . the basslink is a great idea but it just looks UGLY i can't imagine it inside my trunk and for that reason im going with a Jl w7 8" http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/8W7.html takes about 15x15' of space and 12' high (w/ the jl box). the amp will probably go on the side of the trunk or i'll get a custom stealth box done. so when you open the trunk you can't tell if there is a sub inside.

It'll come down to personal preference but if you want the best quality go with JL

I can understand where you are coming from, but I have not found any installers around here that I am impressed with yet. They pretty much all are to overcharge me.. I went to a few places on sunday and was not impressed with anything. That's when I figured I would just go with something stealth, but sounds decent enough. I am just looking for some louder / lower bass to add nothing to powerfull. Along with it being really small / easy to install makes it almost perfect. I think I will order the basslink and try it out today.

OMG What do you know.... the damn links at the top when I clicked this thread just now to see what you wrote cTLgo.. it said "Infinity speakers compare prices..." I decided to click it which I rarely click sales links.. and what do you know its a site that compares prices of the infinity speakers it had the set I just ordered earlier today for $1 cheaper but......FREE SHIPPING.. that saves me $55.. that is pretty damn wierd how it had an infinity link on the infinity thread hmm is it set up like that?

Ok. I just called the place I ordered the basslink T from (discountsjungle.com) and they are matching the price!!!!!!!! awesome.. I just saved $55 from checking this thread. Time to donate to acura-tl.com

I assume the installer also had a 4gauge power wire or something similar to the trunk to power up the bass... correct?

I was wondering if that is difficult to do. I'm also in socal and i think $275 installed is a pretty nice price if they did the power wiring as well, can you tell me where the place you had it done is and if you recommend it?

Did you remove the stock subwoofer or just disconnect it?

I know nothing about installing car audio equipment so I can't really tell you what they did. I got it done at Super Autobacs in Stanton. It's a pretty cool store, kind of like a Wal*Mart full of car stuff. They are pretty pricey though. For example, the best price I could get them to offer me on a set of wheels was $1200 more than the price I eventually bought them for from someone else. The guy that helped me in the audio department said that the BassLink was on sale that weekend, B.S. maybe but the price was good so I took it.

The stock sub was not removed and is still functional. I often turn the BassLink all the way down and use only the stock sub.

EDIT: IMO they did a great job on the install. If you'd like pics PM me your e-mail address and I'll send them on over.

I'd be more than happy to post my pics but they are not hosted on the web. They are in my laptop at home. I did send them to PoochaKannInc, maybe he can post them for us. If not, I can post them tonight when I get home from work.

Unfortunately, I can't access my home e-mail from work...so I can only post them up when I get home tomorrow. If you get a chance Automata...do it today, otherwise, I'll post your pics up sometime tomorrow morning.

I just got back from travel out of the country. I have pics of my new headrest screens ... unfortunately I got an email that I just read saying "ooops we are out of stock so we cancelled your order for the basslink"... mfkers that really pisses me off because when I called them I specifically asked them if it was in stock... GRR. I will order a new one today.

I have the Basslink X in my RSX now and will transfer it over to the TL when I eventually get it. Got it for $195 on Canal Street. It works great and adds just enough bass that I'm looking for.

Anytime, hopefully I will get it this time. I can't believe it.. I had it set up so it would come sometime while I was not home so I really didn't have to wait so long for the "ground" shipping . I hope it doesnt take more than a week to get here. I will get pics up as soon as I get it in. ... what else can I do..? I am thinking of some nice pedals.. I will go and pick up the door window visors today to see how they look on the TL.

Just to let you know, i doubt the basslink would sound the same since the Rsx is a hatchback. But no one answered my question, how is it powered? can you tap the power into the existing sub?
