Custom Double-din faceplate?

We need someone to fabricate a custom double-din faceplate for the 3rd gen TLs... I know this has been discussed before, but couldn't it be done if someone had the right tools, metra faceplate material and a good template of the opening?

The double-din installs I've seen on this board are nice, but the gaps kills me. I've been eyeing these ddin in-dash navi systems and i want one, just can't take the weird look after the install....

thoughts?

c'mon UNcald4 ... this is all you. You can make it matte black like the OEM console. They sell Pioneer Avic's in matte black so it would match well.

i've rebuilt the side aluminum pieces before for a customer...body worked them and sent them in to get water transfered printed with the silver pattern again...i can't find the pics...but it was a 90 percent match interms of pattern and color...lacked the appropriate texture...and was no long cold or hot depending on the climate control config

I seriously doubt there's a market for this. Not many people would be willing to do away with the HFL, Navi voice and possibly losing steering wheel controls just to upgrade their head unit.

Before I get slammed... I said "not many people", not "nobody". The amount of work and cost that goes into making a mold for this will not be easily recovered in sales. It will only attract hard core audiophiles and idiots.

i wonder if the place that sells those dash kits could make one without the cutouts. Would work perfectly. it could be done in carbon fiber alike...

guys, i'm not talking about starting a company, i'm just talking about what bukvaman is saying .. a guy that knows how to mill down those Metra boards ... kinda like what WestCoast customs would do (for lack of a better example)....

If they can transform a '94 Ford Ranger into a totally new interior, why can't they or someone with that type of skill make a simple template that'll fit over the DD stereo head unit?

i'm talking about someone i can paypal some cash and get this mailed back to me... If it's a Pio, the PAC unit will retain SOME of the steering controls, i could care less about the bluetooth, i'm sure the new headunit would be similar in terms of reliability (if not better) that what i'm used to.

I made a custom faceplate from Metra kit 95-3528, Pontiac GTO 2004-2006 this past weekend. The faceplate matches the curves/contours of the upper and lower dash. I had a template for my previous faceplate to use a guide. It takes a lot of cutting, sanding and patience to get it to fit into that tiny space. It does not address the round hole cut-outs but I made some half circles to fit in there. It's better that just leaving them blank or spending a ton of money for something that will not match the rest of the metal trim. I presently have a Pioneer FH-P800BT but want to upgrade to the Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD. I also added a PAC SWI-PS so I can have steering control of the radio. Presently I have volume up, volume down, next track, previous track. The SWI-PS is suppose have Bluetooth Phone control through the Pioneer but I had some problems programming that portion. I spoke to PAC and they confirmed that it should work. I’ll try next weekend to see if I can get the Bluetooth working.

Thanks

I have been sending emails to Metra for the last year about the lack of support of support for our 3 gen TLs. Maybe if more members sent emails they might do something. Jeez.. they even made kits for newer 2009 cars and nothing for our TLs.

lol, Thanks.

But I'm not done yet. I keep finding new toys I want to put in. I've always been a big fan of Alpine. This comes out this month.

The touchscreen behaves just like the iphone and plays ipod/iphone videos. A fully digital unit (no moving parts- no CD player) with Bluetooth, DVD, ipod, GPS, etc, etc, etc. MSRP $550.00

It's hidden under/inside the dash, just in front of the the center speaker area.

^ I thought you were getting your DD installed a month ago? you need to wire your own connections no off the shelf harness.

you don't wanna run a aftermarket radio to a factory amplifier, save up a bit more and run a aftermarket amplifier aswell, bypass the factory amp and your set or bypass the factory amp with the built in headunit amp

typically integration of the OEM amp means to maintain it for center channel prompts and rear fill
