iSimple Gateway charging capabilities

Hi all. I know the iSimple has been posted about into oblivion, but on a separate site I saw several complaints about how slow it charges iPhones. I'm pretty set on buying it for my 2006 TL, but has anyone (more specifically someone with an iPhone 5) had trouble with it taking a long time to charge? I know that the newer generation iPhone need a 5V power source.

Charging speed is based on volts but actually amperage. Maybe the people that are complaining about the slow charge times are using a low amperage charger (500mA?) The newer spec'd iSimples are using 1 A and above IIRC.

Mine seems to charge pretty fast, then again I have an older iPhone. It probably charges at the same rate as a wall charger. My phone hasn't died since I got the iSimple several months back.

I just installed the Gateway in my '06 TL. I'll compare charge times with my regular DC charger and post the findings.
