Burn DVD Nav disc?

also.... quick note.
i know many dvd writing apps have a "PTP" writing function but the recordable discs you are trying to burn to are manufactured with OTP grooves. so i guess the quest is PTP recordable discs?

Hi Everybody
If still this post of acura Navigation dvd burning problem is active, than i would like to help guys solve this problem because i have a tried several methods and have found the answer for it.
To burn the Dvd as someone in the post rightly said that the file allocation should not be altered by any chance. I have tried around 20 DVD 9 to solve this problem. You have to use DVD 9 with 8.5 gb capacity. You can use imgburn software to make or burn the image. You should not forget that burning DVD 9 is not 100% always so you have to keep trying. I used my dell laptop DVD dual layer burner to burn this project. I used a cheap prodata make DVD 9 for this job since i didn't want to spend more. It works perfectly without a flaw. Before i tried Roxio version 7 & 9, nero version 7/8/9/10 , Imgburn. Most of the time Nero was not able to burn the disc 100% it had problem in burning the second layer. Roxio was able to burn it completely but disc used to give disc error suddenly while driving so that concludes bad burning quality.
My report after burning with imgburn :

I got the newest version (4.92) to burn and work successfully. I'm not sure what is allowed to be discussed about getting it to work, but I used ImgBurn and Verbatim 8.5GB 8x DVD+R DL discs. I think the key is to make sure that exactly 50% of the bytes are on one layer and the other 50% on the other layer. PM me if you need any clarification.

It is well-known that the White (4.x) discs can be copied. You can find ISOs on Bittorrent.
Its the Orange discs that have yet to be copied. It would be great if someone figured them out, as a copied disc would make a great backup given that scratched discs are the most common reason for Navi failure.

Quick question for anyone out there
I have been trying to make a backup copy of my navigation disk the 2012 US V4.A2, without success. I have tried Nero using the copy dvd feature, I have tried Imgburn and copied as an iso, used maxell, and memorex DVD+R DL...and still no luck. I have done about 12 DVDs, and none work. It gives me the message wrong disk. However, and I thought this was funny (and has stumped me), when I received my navigation DVD I immediately made a backup, and inserted that to upgrade the navigation system, and It gave me the updating please don't turn off the engine message. and it seemed to have upgraded fine. Then when it finished upgrading It gave me the wrong disk inserted message. So i inserted the original V4.A2 disk in, and it reads it just fine. Then I tried again to use the backup copy, and no luck, get error message. So I don't know what gives?!!! How could it let me use the backup to update, and then say it is the wrong disk.
If anyone was able to backup a copy of that theirs the newest version V4.A2 please post instructions. I will be very grateful. Step by step. Please. Help. Anyone.?

I ran the diagnostic, while I had the backed up copy of the DVD in, and then looked at the version info, pulled it out, put in my original 4.A2 DVD and the info that shows up on the screen is exactly the same. SO the backup disk is showing the same info as original disk, but still when I try to turn it on, it gives me the "wrong DVD disk" error message. I used imgburn, and it gives me the exact info as the original dvd, once I've made the iso, but when I burn to disk it seems there is something getting added to the DVD, as the final bytes are different than original DVD. I need to backup my disk, I don't want it get scratched up. Hopefully one of you can help me. Should I put the backed up copy. Should I hit the download button when the backup disk is in while in diagnostic mode? What does that do anyway? Anyone?

Man I've gone through about 15 DVD+R DL, different makes, and no success yet. I have tried imgburn, read and write..no luck. I have tried Nero..no luck. The closest I've gotten was with a Memorex with Nero on the fly, got the 50% 50% to each layer, but backup copy is still slightly larger than original. And I tried a verbatim DVD as another member suggested, and the difference in bytes between the backup and the original got smaller, but still no luck. Very frustrating. All I want to do is make a backup so I won't mess up my original. I wan't to start a new thread asking people if they've had any luck backing up this version, and if so what is the secret. Should I?
#211
That's it. I got no more to give, at least for now. I give up, until I can get my hands on the DVD-R DL. Hope someone has better luck and can share their success story and post details on how to backup Navi DVD V4.A2. Or if it even is possible.
#212
Well got the DVD-R DL disks in today, and burned 3 copies. two of them gave me (in regards to size, number of bytes, and sectors) a perfect copy, however It does not want to split 50% to one layer and 50% to another layer. And does not want to work. I tried everything. I am not a quitter, but I am giving up. Hopefully someone has success with it and can show me, or tell me how to make a backup of my disk. I honestly think it is something on the original DVD disk. Because all of the info is there, and when I go to start it, it looks like it wants to start, even the OK button pops up (if only for a half of a second), but then something tells the navi that it is not an original. I'm thinking of ripping that POS DVD rom player and putting one that plays anything? any idea if that's even possible? anyone?

Success! Verified! I have made a working backup of my 2012 V4.A2 navigation DVD. Damn! For all the money that I have spent trying this, I could have bought me another original disk. But no matter, that wasn't my intention, rather make a working copy of my disk. Although it gives me trouble when starting it, it gives me the wrong disk error message, I simply pull the disk out and insert it back in, and it works without any problem. While it is not perfect, I am happy because it shows that the disk DOES NOT HAVE ANY copy protection, either on the physical disk, or embedded in the data. I am gonna go buy another burner, one that can let you switch the booktype from DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM. That is the secret. Good luck to anyone. Too bad all my burners automatically change the booktype, because that doesn't seem to make the disks work. Also, Verbatims DVD+R DL (till right now)are the only ones I've had success with. I'm gonna try some other type of media. Perhaps one that can easily be booktyped to DVD-ROM. I got a LG GP10 DVD burner, however it seems to automatically set the booktype. Anyone out there know which burners let you manually change the booktype? Verified? Because when I do so with the LG, with Nero, it lets me do it but the DVD still reads as a DVD+R DL, and I think this is why it's giving me problems. Anyone have the 2012 v4.A2 that can verify this for me?

Hey flamitaz congrats on getting your backup to work. I realized I need to buy the 2012 US V4.A2 update after moving to santa barbara and finding many streets missing on my '09 nav system. While googling places to buy it, I came across this forum after many people suggesting to back up the disk and save the original, just in case. I wanted to confirm the method you had success with:
use ImgBurn
Verbatim DVD+R DL
a burner that can switch the booktype from DVD+R DL to DVD-RoM
Sorry to crib off all your hard work for my first post, but I just needed a jumping off point for trying it myself. If I have any success I'll report back here.

Pandastar, no worries. Yes those are the things I did to get a working copy. I did however, have to do about 18-20 non working copies before I got that one. In the end, I discovered that there is something in the DVD data that tells the player if it is a copy or an original DVD. In one of the BIN files. These BIN files can be patched to fool the player. I am using a patched V 4.92 backup (2011 version). I am just waiting for someone to patch the files on the V.4A2 DVD. Just a matter of time. If anyone out there knows how to do it, or knows someone who knows how to do it, let me know, and I would gladly provide the ISO, or just the BIN files needed. Good luck!

Update!!!!
Someone over at Demonoid was super nice enough to finally patch the file needed to make your backup of the 2012 v4.A2 Navi disc work. Made a backup copy of my original disc, replaced the patched file that was needed, and worked flawlessly! I knew that it would just be a matter of time. Wish I had the know how, I would have done this a long time ago! Make a backup of your original DVD, and replace the file (09Touch2.bin) needed with this one . This is only for the V4.A2 2012 White navi disc.
#218
Don't really know since I don't keep up with the orange disc (I use white). But I am sure the same principle applies. Someone that has know how in that should have no problem in patching it. And I strongly believe it has nothing to do with which way the disc are written. Good luck with your search.
#219
Even the patched White ones only work in the cars with drives before 2009. So the 3rd Gen TL is lucky. Same patched disc will not work in a 2009+ honda or Acura. So either more files need to be patched due to some update on the drive's firmware... who knows. I need the Orange disc ... so I'm out of luck.
BTW anyone want to send me a invite so that I can register at Demanoid? Pretty gay .. that they have this system.

Elegant, do you know of anyone with a 2009+ navigation drive? Can you try something? Reason why I'm asking because, technically you can force the navi to (what would be the opposite of update.lol) "downgrade" to an earlier navi disc, lets say go from 2009 to 2008 navi disc, and then upgrade from there. Maybe I'm just thinking crazy. I will try it on a friend's 2011 Ridgeline as soon as I can and will let you know my findings. Unless someone else can try this out, and let us know.
#222
Worked on a 2011 Honda ridgeline with no problem. It didn't want to upload/update automatically like my 08 TL does once yo insert the disc. I just went into diagnostic mode and updated manually. Worked perfect after that. As of right now only the touch screen based navigation file has been patched, so the dvd wont work with jog dial based navi.

Incorrect disc error
I can't for the life of me get past the incorrect disc error with the 4.A2 backup. I've tried the exact copy of the disc and various patch combinations. I can upgrade the firmware automatically and manually, but after it reboots, it says incorrect disc. Anyone figure this out yet? Is there another place to look? Something else to try? I am halfway through my 20-pack set and still can't get it working. Thanks.

i burned a dvd+r dual layer disc for the dvd-audio player and it worked fine the first time. it was the Beatles Love DVD-Audio. but now i am getting a focus error and it wont play. other dvd audios i have burned that are smaller than 4.7 gb work fine in the dvd-audio/cd player using regular dvd+r discs. not sure if this translates to the navi disc or not, but thought someone might find it useful.

It looks like there are not many replies to this thread, so anyone with a question for a particular person should left click on the user name (top left corner of the post) of the person, and open their profile to see their date of last activity, and if they have been active recently you should send them a PM.
If you are just asking a general question, you might want to post your own thread since this one doesn't get much action.
New members can send one PM, and then they will have to delete their welcome PM, and possibly the one they sent, so they can receive replies.
In this case, shoonya hasn't been active since 07-03-2012 so it's not likely you will get a reply.

BTW, when you put in your DVD and come up to the "Error" screen do the following :
1) Hold down MAP/GUIDE, MENU and CANCEL at the same time
2) This brings up a Menu
3) From the Menu, select "Version"
4) Then select "Download"
5) This will update the software into your system.
Works like a charm using Memorex DVD+R DL made by Ritek.

My Dad has an '08, and I have an '04. I'm assuming because his disk is white and mine is orange, I can't copy his disk and update mine? I just went through the gauntlet that is this thread, and I have more questions then answers.
My '04 navi has never been upgraded lol.
