Sadness, no luck

I looked at the properties on the master disk. As some others on this thread have pointed out, the master disk is of the PTP format. Whenever I try to create a copy, the copied disk is of the OTP (outside track path) format. I downloaded a program called GEAR 7.0 Pro (free for 30 days) which is a disk mastering tool that can supposedly burn in the PTP format. However, I've tried to both directly copy the disk, and to create a new compilation and burn in PTP, but the end result is still an OTP disk.
Sorry guys, I've burned through an entire stack of DVD+R DL disks, and still can't get a good copy made. It is curious, though, that the 4.55 disk copies so easily. I wonder if the 3.6 disk would give any problems? Anyone tried that specific version? The one I'm trying to duplicate is v 3.30

I have with no luck: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...5&postcount=29

My guess is that the 4.X is OTP making it so easy to duplicate.

I read somewhere that you needed a PTP cabable burner, is your PTP cabable? I googled it and a few of them on the market are. Just thought I should mention that.

According to the following thread, current media can only be written in OTP, although the thread is over 18 months old.

an idea - probably a longshot

OK So I have been reading up on PTP burning and it seems that XBox 360 and most DVD-Video discs use the same PTP method. In DVD Video, this is apparently done to have 2 versions of a movie on the same disc (i.e. 4:3, 16:9 aspect).

I read somewhere about a guy who was ejecting the DVD then reinserting it after the first layer was burned to force the write head back to the inside position. I'm not sure if this works or not, and I cannot for the life of me find the forum I read it on. This seems like a poorman's way to burn PTP but it might just work.

My other thought is this, and please understand I am NO expert at this but I think there is potential here (though I do not know how to do this): Is there a way to reverse the data and backfill the "beginning" (which would be the outside of the disc) so that, in essence, the disc image looks the same to the DVD-ROM but it is still burned using OTP.

I know it's really a longshot but I'm sure some sleep deprived hacker type could probably devise a method...

I'm betting on the poorman's solution.. Who's willing to try??

I tried the procedure from csmeance and it worked great. I agree that the key is not modifying the ISO image after it is created. I don't understand why programs would do this though. I imagine making an ISO of the 4.56A+ DVDs can be done with any ISO creation program. And you probably don't need Nero; any program that can burn ISOs should work.

nope, latest for 04-06 is 3.60, this is the 4.45A disk which ONLY works in the 05+ RL, 06+ MDX, 07+ TL and 07+ TSX, and 07 + RDX.

I made myself 5 or so copies on actual DVDs just to have a bunch of spare or in case anyone ever needed any.

1st time failed, 2nd time failed and 3rd time also failed !

I made three copies of Nav. dvd disc version 3.6 but my TL is not happy with any of the copied DVDs. I used Memorex DVD +R DL with lowest available burning speed. I used Nero software to burn all the copies. I selected the Copy-Entire-DVD option to burn the first DVD, Image to burn the second DVD and copy-and-paste method (suggested by Acurazine member in this post) to burn the third copy. Now, I don't know what else to try.

It's been impossible to backup 3.x navi disks. Check out page 2 of this thread for speculations why.

I bet I can copy a version 3.6 DVD nav disk. Here's my original post from a year ago:

I've made working, dual layer copies of my '06 Civic navi Dvd! I keep a copy installed in the car all the time (the original is kept in a safe place). The disk is not encrypted - no need to use DVD decrypter to copy it, I think Honda (Alpine) may have (unintentionally??) copy protected it. The trick to copying it is to NOT RE-ARRANGE ANY FILES and LEAVE THE DIRECTORY UNTOUCHED! First you make a perfect ISO image file of the original DVD - I believe I used "Magic ISO Maker" to make the image file. Then use Nero version 7 to burn it (many programs, inc. DVD Decrypter I believe will write the ISO file correctly). Any attempt I made to replace/modify the DVD fileswill produce a DVD that errors out in the navi (although the DVD will read fine in a PC). It appears that the original DVD has a non-standard file/directory structure. I did find a way to modify the ISO image and make a working disk - I wrote a program that overwrites a file in the ISO file - you can't change the size or the name of the file, but you can modify the file's contents. I used this method to modify the file "06AVN2.bin" with a new version of the opening screen graphics.

By the way, I've made working DVDs using dual layer Verbatim and "GQ" discs. My writer is a LITEON SOHW-832S firmware version CG5J and I believe it writes at 2.4x.

^^ Not doubting you but, do it before you bet you can. I've wasted close to 10 blank dvd's trying to do this.

Let us know if it works......

Now that the new 3.7 just came out, this thread deserves a bump.

And, uhm... did anyone notice the friendly return policy?

instead of burning a PTP disc, maybe there's a way to make the navigation read OTP discs? Somewhere along the lines of mod chip hacks that allowed old gaming consoles to load self made discs....

Make sure that the files are unaltered during the process. Even if one byte is changed, the navi dvd drive will reject the 4.XX disks. If you are trying 3.xx, you have not listened at all, the 3.xx disks cannot be burned due to PTP and OTP.

I wouln't try it, the navi drive is 2-3K brand new, and fucking it up would be a costly mistake.

I did read that 3.xx discs could not be burned.. but i thought i'd try different methods still.

Looks like someone out there burned a 3.70 disc successfully:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f80/make-ba...ml#post1815697
Made a successful backup of the '07 navigation DVD for my '05 Honda Accord. Used roughly the same method as detailed here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/1341738-post18.html

Used Philips DVD+R DL and a philips 8801 burner

Don't '07 TLs use the newer version 4 (white) discs which have already been copied successfully by others?

I was told to post in here by a moderator from another thread because I was the next one who was going to attempt a few different burning methods to try to make a copy of ANY of the orange DVD's. I got my friends 3.50 copy.

Just wanted to give a status update:

No one told me it was 6.6GB. lol. I don't have any DL disks but I have made images using Alcohol 120, MagicISO and Nero. Just waiting to burn them. I am also going to take a stab at making a DVD that has the OK button and different greeting image. Will keep ya'll posted.

My little down doesn't have any DL DVD's so I'm going to get some later today but the next time I have access to the car is in a week. Keep ya'll posted.

Has anybody tried using a Pioneer 111D/112D burner?

these burners are known for auto setting the booktype to DVD-ROM on dual layer discs

also you guys should be trying Verbatim +R DL discs

Pioneer burners and Verbatim discs are known to be the best combination, that produce the best readability for Dual Layer discs (this combination is used to back up xbox 360 games)

Thats just how it is......yes you can purchase the new 3.7 update from the apline acura store and it will make all the updates that they have made over the past 4 years. That would consist of new roads, road name changes, points of interest, etc. Its worth the $ to update from the 04's 3.3 or 3.4 disc.

Only 1 person claimed to be able to do it, but they wouldn't give much if any info on how they accomplished it. Also since it is "illegal" to sell copyrighted materials and you'd be banned from this board for doing so I doubt many people are going to line up to help you accomplish this. The disc was $150 marked down from the normal $200, not sure if it still is. If I were you save the headache and just buy the disc, in the greater scheme of things its just worth it.
