Bluetooth Froze

I went to make a call through the handsfree button the the whole system froze. The radio wouldn't work or the CD player. I still get a Phone icon even though the phone isn't near the car. Also when I turn off the engine and remove the key, the Handsfree still thinks I am trying to place a call. Anybody have this problem?

Turn the engine off, turn your phone off, and walk away from the car. Never had the problem but I am guessing that would reset everything.

Even when I am out of range, the car still thinks I am trying to make a call, which is probably going to drain my car battery.

press the phone command button (top one) and then after the beep press cancel... see if that fixes anything.

If you take it to the dealer, they will disconnect the battery. When they reconnect the battery, all computer systems will reset.

I didn't have that exact issue but my HFL froze up 2 days after I bought it. The Dealership had to replace the HFL module and it's working now.

Mines 39XXX. Maybe some bad HFL modules made it into production?

What part of Pittsburgh you from? I grew up an hour north just outside Clarion

I just had this exact same problem.

I have had the TL for 6 days and when placing a call the bluetooth froze. None of my audio works, and bluetooth still thinks i am in use with my phone.

THe display wont go off.

I am going to take it in, but I wonder if anyone knows the fix for this.\

My HFL occassionaly locks up as well.

I have a feeling that the HFL is probably going to be the one thing that I have a love/hate relationship with, as long as I own the TL.

Love it when it works, hate it when it doesn't understand what I'm talking about.

Frozen HFL

I had the same problem and the HFL thought the phone was still connected even though the phone was shut off. The radio/cd wouldn't work because it thinks the phone is connected. Turning off the car would still keep the system on. I had to take it to the dealer and he resetted the system. As to how he reset the system, I don't know but my guess he d/c the battery to kill the bug. Hasn't happened since, that was about 5 months ago.

freezin' cold HFL

Yeah, mine froze today too with my V551. It has been working 100%, never had any problems. I wish there was a way to reset the system - but the unit shows a phone is on even when the phone is turned off and there is no key in the ignition for several hours.

followup: frozen solid

Followup from below - well disconnecting the positive on the battery for a sec worked. Nice thing is that my presets on XM are still saved - had to redo the phone but now all is ok. If it happens again may have to bring it to the dealer.

Simply try unpairing the phone and then repairing it. Easier than getting uder the hood and disconnecting the battery!

Yeah, I know, but I had precisely the same symptoms as the original poster. The unpairing/pairing process fixed it immediately.

Well, my point was that if the HFL buttons aren't working, how could you possibly do the pairing procedure??

That's a good point briden. I guess mine did have that functionality as I began the unpairing process.

A word of warning. I had the HFL lockup and was eventually able to unlock it a few weeks ago.
All has been well since. We hadn't driven the car in two days and when we tried to start it the battery was completely dead - absolutely no power at all. Called the dealer who told us to call the Acura Care number and have the car towed to the dealer. Dealer called and said the problem was the HFL must have locked up again (didn't notice it) and drained the battery. He said they have been told when a TL comes in with locked HFL they should immediately attach a battery charger while waiting to work on it.
The service guy said that since the battery was completely dead after they charged it the HFL had reset and was fine and we could pick up the car. I asked if they weren't going to replace the HFL module - he said unless the car is brought in lockup (and still with power in the battery) they can't do anything. He said when they get a locked up one they call Acura who sends out a specialist (might take a couple of days) and only they can establish that the HFL is bad and order it's replacement.
We left the TL with them (they didn't have a loaner so they rented us a Toyota from Hertz). They are going to keep the car and try to make it fail (what are the odds...).
Now may wife is upset and will be afraid to drive the car, thinking it may lock up, drain the battery and she will be stranded. I asked the service guy about this - his response - don't use the HFL - my response - I paid a premium for a car with the extra technology and Acura's response is "don't use it cause it might break the car".... I don't think so.
Tomorrow's call is to the Service manager...
Rick
