Anyone have the V710 and using Verizon

I am now using the AT&T t637 and having a tough time hearing people. I had the dealer look at it and they are telling me it is the phone. The phone sounds like the left front speaker is broken and vibrates with the voices. This only happens with the phone and not the radio so I would agree with the dealer. I am with in my 30 day trial so I am thinking of taking it back and going to Verizone V710. Any feed back or troubles and what meters are shown on the dash with this phone. Thanks in advance.

More important than anything you're referring to is the fact that you live in New Jersey. No, no jokes about NJ. Verizon has the best coverage in the NY/NJ Metro area bar none and you're with the wrong carrier. Forget about the TL integration for a moment.....how'd you like to make and receive 100% of your attempted calls? You will with Verizon.

Getting off the "how did you get shafted with ATT in NJ?" soapbox....

Could be that the volume control on the phone is too low and thus you're over-compensating by cranking the TL's volume and distorting the sound. If you've checked the phone's volume then yeah, sounds like a bad phone/Bluetooth sync.

As for the v710, its terrific on all fronts. Great build quality, unbeatable feature set, great reception, and awesomely flawless integration with the TL.

As for the 'meters' on the dash, right now the 710 only transmits the 'phone' icon on the dash display....within a month Motorola/Verizon will issue a firmware update that will place both the battery indicator and signal strength indicator (and possibly the roaming indicator) on the display in the TL.

There are more than 100 V710 threads here since the end of July. Would you please check them?

I've been with Verizon for several years now. My last phone was a Motorola T720, and I really hated it. It would freeze up which required a battery removal (it was replaced twice for this problem), and the signal strength was weak (my wife's T720 was fine). Just upgraded to the V710 (for under $100 ) and I am so happy with it, I may stay with Verizon for life! The reception signal is way better than what I got with the T720. The features of the phone (voice commands), blue tooth HFL, awesome coverage (in Hawaii) and the general "cool" factor of the phone is simply amazing. I love this phone. I'm finally happy (again) with my cell phone. If the coverage is great in your area (and reading the reply above tells me it is), you should switch based on coverage alone. You won't be dissapointed with the phone (unless you were hoping on taking great pictures! ).

How did you upgrade to the v710 for under a hundred dollars?

I got it from my business rep whom I've known for several years. I didn't ask questions.

When Motorola releases the firmware (supposedly in early September which is right around the corner) you'll just bring the phone into your friendly local Verizon store and they'll re-flash it for you. Some think that it can be done OTA due to the high speed connectivity that comes standard with the v710, but I doubt it.

I don't imagine the upgrade should be a problem

Here's an idea for diagnosis

There are two questions here: why does your speaker vibrate? and how is V710/Verizon?

I have V710 on Verizon and think it's great. No complaints so far, would love to learn how to program a pause on the Acura's phone book. Other than that, signal strong, handsfree works, etc.

You may wish to consider whether your speaker is loose/faulty. It's resonant vibration (where the crummy buzz is most noticeable) may be in the frequency range of human voices, but not where most of your music is, hence the buzzing when the phone is on.

Here's a way to diagnose. Turn your stereo on, and crank the balance and fader so that sound is only coming through this one speaker. Then try a bunch of different XM channels, get some talk (BBC news/comedy) some jazz, some hard rock, etc. See if you find some buzzing. Then you'll know the problem is a speaker that needs replacing (had one like this on an Acura MDX), not a phone that needs replacing.

However, the phone works well enough that replacing it for its own sake seems a good idea!! Good luck.

For a pause, when you say the number, say "pause" at the point where you want to insert a pause.

Can we dial *228 the way Verizon used to tell people to do to upgrade?

Yes and No

Just tried it. *228 gives you a voice menu from which you can select #1 to upgrade the phone. It gives you a little elevator music for a while, then tells you it's upgraded. The phone beeps loudly and there are a couple of flashing messages. Then you're done.

I took it out to the car and tried the HandsFreeLink to see if signal strength or battery were visible. No dice. Sorry.

Elsewhere, I've read that the update (when/if) it comes will be fairly sizeable -- too big to do over the airwaves. Just called Verizon Tech Support to see if the random techie would know anything about it. Standard answer: they never tell us in advance, no rumors, no nothin'.

The only thing the *228 will do is update your PRL (preferred roaming list) so that it makes it more cost effective for Verizon to manage where you roam. Be warned that doing the PRL update outside of your home/office area will screw things up when you get back home, so if you did this PRL update while on the road make sure you do it again when you're back in your easy chair.

but what happens when you have a national plan, and there is no roaming?

That's why BJ's post said it's more cost effective for Verizon, not you the customer.

Nice, huh.

Not entirely true. While the *228 won't affect, cost-wise, the National Plan customers, it could affect them signal-wise. It could mean the difference between a 1x signal and an analog signal. It's still a good idea.

However, for everyone else, ESPECIALLY the America's Choice customers, it could make the difference between roaming and not roaming, so you should always do this just before you plan to leave your home area.

I'm new to this forum, so perhaps this problem has been fully addressed elsewhere (and I would love a reference) -- but I just got my V710 and I have been having difficulty receiving calls. Making calls works fine, so I assume I'm "paired" correctly. I've talked to Acura and Motorola, and am told there are "compatibility" issues, for which Motorola says they will have a "solution" by November. I am curious about those of you who are having success using the V710 -- is there something I am missing.

Thanks for your patience . . . .

If you haven't done it already, set the ringer on your phone to something simple, or else tell the HFL to use a notification rather than a ringer. If you set the ringer to something complicated, like having it play the 1812 Overture or some such, the HFL won't recognize the ringer and you won't be able to receive calls unless you answer the phone and then transfer the call--which defeats the purpose of the HFL.
