Where to put radar detector?

Does anybody have some suggestions of a good place for a radar detector? I just bought a K40 RD850, the TL is just too nice of a car to have suction cups on the windshield. Also, the dash seems a bit too low to allow for the rear-aiming radar detection to keep an unobstructed view. Please let me know if you have some good ideas.

Thanks!

I have it "suction-cupped" to my windshield to the right of the rear-view mirror. I would mount it as high as possible. Some people have it close to the A-pillar, I like it closer to the middle, for more coverage (this is not as important as having it high enough on the windshield).

I agree - I hate having wires and crap dangling all over the cockpit - that's why I opted for the factory nav system instead of just using my Garmin Street Pilot.

The closest thing to a "factory" radar detector are the remote mount kind like this K40. Like the factory nav, these are more expensive than their portable counterparts, but for a well-integrated installation it's the only way to go.

I only wish Valentine Research would come out with a remote version of the Valentine One - it sucks having to choose between an "invisible" installation and a top-quality radar detector.

Hard Wire That Detector!

Hard wiring the radar detector is a half hour job - piece of cake - really. Don't put up with a dangling wire obstructing your navi system. Take a half hour and hard wire it. Just did it with my Escort 8500 X50. These instructions are particularly good. Wash your hands well first - the fabric will show dirt if it's like mine (parchment).

I hardwired the K40 and it works very well, been warned several times already during my hurricane evacuation!
