Alpine said $358 to fix Nav unit?

I had the check disk problem with my NAV I took it out and called Alpine he said inclose a check for $358. I heard everyone saying they got there's fixed for $160. Anyone had there's fixed recently, or know what's up with this? Please help I have no radio at all until this is fixed!!

Depends on what failed- I have been through a couple of them and they said the last one's power control board failed.

$358 is steep to repair such an antique piece of electronics...

At this point, I'd replace it with a aftermarket unit. Little custom work to make it fit flush.

Mine was replaced with a repaired unit under good will through Acura. Cost me $200 and came with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty.

if you want it fixed, send it off to alpine OR try your luck through the dealership. might be able to do better than $360 and not have to deal with shipping, etc.

depends on the age/miles of your car and what kind of warranty you have.

There are local places (depending where you are) that might be able to fix them to. Look online or around in your area for audio repair places & check with some of them. If nothing else to price shop a little. & you might find someone local to do it cheaper. On my previous car my radio/cd changer/climate control went out. The dealer wanted $400+ to have it fixed (they just send it out for repairs anyway) I found a place to do it for $160. And came with a warranty. Obviously that wasn't on a navi but just for reference. Make some calls, stop by some places, ect. Good luck with the repairs.

Curious, when you guys sent the unit in for repair, before or after price increase, was a new(er) navigation disc included?

How do you remove the navigation unit to send back? I am not too mechanically inclined and worried about successfully removing it. Thanks.

Alpine now charges $470, minimum $50 if there's no problem and $100 if they can't fix. Other sources are similar price.

Original Car Audio http://www.cd4car.com/repair-your-un...007-2008-2009/ charges quotes $330, just checked reviews. Terrible... guess I have to continue searching for a less expensive option.

I paid $358 for my unit to get repaired back in April. If they are still asking for that cost then it is worth it in my opinion.

Did you try cleaning the optics before sending it in?

$358 isn't a bad price, considering what's involved. I pulled the unit out of mine, and have a failed optics block (laser). The best price I could find, was through a Chinese vendor. This part alone was over $100 plus shipping. And with my experience from many of the vendors there, it would be a pay and hope. I buy a lot of small components there (IC's), and that's worked ok, but really slow.

BTW, I'm an electronics tech by trade,,,,so working on this stuff is what I do. LOL

For my situation, and what I plan for this car, I'll just delete navigation. I'll then put in a non-navi control, with an aftermarket nav/head.

Did you guys have to send in DVD with nav unit?

Hi All,

ACURA sent my nav system to Alpine for repairs as the fix it disk for the 0.00 clock corrupted the system, as they sent me the wrong version of the fix it disc. They are fixing it out of Goodwill, so it will be free. However, they did not ship the DVD nav disk. Did you guys include your disc when you shipped it for repairs?

I ended up purchasing a used one for $400 or something awhile back. Have an extra disc I think... if you're interested.
